Good morning,
just out of curiosity, how much can you turn your input shaft of the rear/front Diff. Means, from one side to the other until there is the stop and the wheels want to turn.
On mine, it is around 15mm or almost 20°. I can feel different "steps" inside the diff, so I guess, the...
A pity is, that the parts are not interchangeable anymore. On my J4 i can use the fwd Diff to repair the rear one, if necessary. And I only need one set of spares in stock for the diffs.
The old diesel-engines "like" that, no problem. But you should consider a shorter oil change interval. I have the options in Brazil between low sulfur and 500ppm-Diesel and I prefer the 500ppm. I noticed, somehow I've less issues with with "fungo"/water in the diesel.
The old Merc in my...
Difficult to get it up and down there, I don't think the structure will support it (unless you reinforce the hood) and the looks -> well depends.
Get a rack for the back-door and do it in a proper way, means, install a reinforcement inside the cabin to support the additional weight, then you...
Well, I can just tell, mine is doing the exact same thing. I think there are only 2 gears synchronized (forgot which ones, guess it's 1st and 2nd).
But mine makes really noises if I shift to fast. I usually press the clutch, take out (eg) 1st and move the shifter to 2nd and apply a little bit of...
Thanks a lot.
I just was at a welder shop which already did some weldings for my old Jipe.
He was surprised but said, he can do that tomorrow morning. I just need to bring a jack, remove the wheel and disconnect the battery.
I asked him about the additional cornerplate and he said, he can do...
Good morning
Today I found the bracket for the damper ripped off. No idea why, I just did the groceries:)
Two questions:
1: you guys think it’s necessary to remove the axle to get it welded? It’s necessary to warm the whole axle to weld it?
2: would it make sense to weld in another little...
I'm living in Brazil, I was looking for some other tanks, but there is not so much avail. There is a Aux-Tank which will be installed underneath the car, but I already have a Inox-Exhaust-System there.
The tank over the whole front seats would be cool, never saw this down here.
There is a...
No Pictures, but little things:
-> I found some debris in the prefilter for the diesel-pump (tiny glas-cup with a filter inside, used on the mercedes-engines)
I removed and cleaned it and found out, that there A LOT of debris, I guess from corrosion in the tank.
I changed the prefilter and the...
Hard to say, but if, then not as much as you mentioned. I have a Merc OM314 and I don't have a big difference between 10ppm or 500ppm Diesel.
EGT up- or downstream of the turbine? Mine is running with a retrofit turbo in idle a little bit hotter, the other values would fit for mine as well. My...
Me too. Unfortunately my engine. But it runs like that pretty fine. So only the scratches are not the reason the engine is not willing to run (but they don't help either)
You can have a look on top of the Transfer Gearbox.
There is a lever, if it's like mine on the picture, it's neutral. Lever to the left means AWD and to the right it's RWD.
If lever and status of the gear doesn't correspond, then it's something inside. But it's not rocket science, there is...
Might be, I don't know. I don't know a other car with those signals. Anyway, back then, they used a lot of components of other cars. Like the mercedes engine, brake system, etc. But it works pretty well, almost everything is avail on the aftermarket for a reasonable price.
I know from the old Mercedes Engines, owners usually use the 15W40, for mostly cold areas it will be the 10W40 and the 20W50 is only used, if the engine is degraded and has some issues with the oil pressure. It's kind of a workaround avoiding the overhaul (or at least changeing the crankshaft...
Congrats, I own a ´89 short frame, maybe some little answers:
- The history is maybe important. Be sure, there is no corrosion prevention at all. And there a lot of "creative" mecanicos out there, who can fix a Band with a hammer and a screwdriver only. But the car will look like that. Expect...
I have (or hopefully had) a leaking idle gear - shaft seal on my transfer-case.
So I ordered all the parts (sealing rings, gaskets, ...) and build a adapter for my jack, removed the drivedrain and pulled the gear, which I thought is easier, but the gearboxes somehow are designed to be removed...
