I was thinking about getting a new pinion with the shaft that will accommodate a crush sleeve. My only problem then would be setting the proper pinion depth. Does any one have the tool Toyota made for this?
Not sure. Have. 71 FJ40 and am changing the 4.10 to a 3.70 which were supposed to have come out of an 84 +- FJ40. The front differential didn’t have the crush sleeve but the rear did. The only difference between the two that I can see is the pinion shaft and the outer bearing (and where the...
Does anyone out there know where I can get a set of washers (spacers) for the differential with no crush sleeve? At one time Toyota made 9 of them I currently have the 2.84mm washer. With 2 shims (.25mm shims) it is too tight (cant turn it by hand at all) and with three shims it is too loose...
I am probably not the one to do any guiding as I am doing this for the first time. Spector off road has a kit for the rear and should bolt up easily if you have an original suspension. As for the front I would just get the part number stamped on the caliper an buy new ones. Some one else here...
Yes. I need to rotate the caliper and bracket up to about the 10:30 position (looking at the passenger side) and 2:30 on the other. On the SOR kit that only allows 3 bolts on the mounting bracket. Two on the top and one one the bottom. They say that should be good. Well we will see. That is...
I had the same problem with mine. Had to adjust the pin all the way in and also back out the clevis that attaches to the brake pedal arm all the way back until the rod hits the arm. Also had to remove the residual valve from the master cylinder. Looks like a thimble with a little hole in it...
Has any one added a rear disc brake conversion to a 71 FJ40 from Spector Off Road? I am having problems with run out on my axle and run out with the rotors mounted. Paperwork say's runout with the rotor installed should be less tan .010 (measurements are in inches). My axle had a .035 run out...
