After looking at the various options, I settled on mounting it over the driver’s side rear fender. I know it isn’t ideal in an emergency but it was a compromise.
Just thinking out loud… Seems like your buddy or the shop owner would have to file a mechanic’s lien and follow to the letter the procedure in that state for establishing title in his name.
Looking for a 1/75-1/79 rear Heat Shield that mounts to the floor just behind the skid plate on the left side above the exhaust. Below is an example photo stolen from Mud:

I recently got one of these stethoscopes and it seems like a reasonable device to have on hand for assistance diagnosing and pinpointing the location of engine issues.
Don’t forget one of the bolts is shorter than the other 3. If I recall correctly, it goes in the lower left corner. Georg provides a nice set of Allen-head bolts.
Finally got around to fixing the factory AC.
The vent windows used to flop around. Tightened the hardware behind the access holes and they now stay put.

Still Looking: Since new headers will be going on soon, and because exhaust heat on the steering box is a concern, I'm still interested in seeing if I can find a later model heat shield and brackets for a manual box. Perhaps I can modify it to fit.
