Wiring Issue 1972 FJ40 Dome Light Stereo

The stereo is aftermarket in a tuffy console. Stereo is connected to power to battery with fuse and the remote turn on (blue wire) is connected to the RADIO fuse. It's almost like the RADIO fuse and DOME light fuse are connected... I think I might take everything I've done and work backwards.

Wiring Issue 1972 FJ40 Dome Light Stereo

Do you know why the Radio would turn on? It's as if when I connected the Dome light wire everything stayed on with no key.

Wiring Issue 1972 FJ40 Dome Light Stereo

So I was trying to hookup a rocker panel (3 switches and 12v/USB charge port) over the weekend and something very weird happened. One of the rocker panel switches will be used for the DOME light First, I used the 12v for the cig lighter to hook up to the top 12v connector of the rocker panel...

    FJ40 1972 Horn Issues

All fixed, turns out it was the button on turn signal switch. It wasn’t reaching the horn wire disc. Took out the spring of the button and extended. Everything works great now, thanks again everyone for the insight. Horn hasn’t worked in years. PO must not have cared.

    FJ40 1972 Horn Issues

The button works but now my problem lies in between column. It has one of the old gm turn signal switches with the plate that should spin with the horn wire. Any thoughts on what I can do? Already tested button off with ground wire and used same ground when the button was on the yellow wire but...

    FJ40 1972 Horn Issues

Just want to thank everyone for pointing me in the right direction. I followed the wiring and in a nest was a bare black wire which just happened to say to Horn Switch touched a bolt and the horn went off. I felt pretty dumb but can start from there. Still no luck with it on the connector but...

    FJ40 1972 Horn Issues

Yes, I took a wire, grounded to frame and touched the pin the horn wire uses. Does the wire go from fuse box/relay straight to harness? Or is the harness wire come from the horn? Thanks.

    FJ40 1972 Horn Issues

So I tried grounding the yellow wire to the frame, nothing. So I tried grounding the pin from the connector of wire harness that goes up the steering column and nothing. Does that mean there’s an issue between the relay and harness? Jumping the relay pins does sound the horn. Thanks.

    FJ40 1972 Horn Issues

Thank you. I will try that but my button has a gold ring that’s supposed to ground. But I will try that and see if it helps. If I ground the harness connector horn wire should it beep the horn?

    FJ40 1972 Horn Issues

Horn under the hood works and relay also works. I tried a wire grounding the button to the frame and still nothing. I’m going to try and see if I connect the middle plug on button and grounding to frame.

Yes, nothing. Does anyone know if I should be getting 12v at the button? Thanks.

    FJ40 1972 Horn Issues

Hello, I’m trying to get my horn to function properly. I tested the horn and it does work. I located the relay, pulled it and the ohms tested at 87.5. When I jump the relay top/bottom, I think pin 87 and 30 the horn works. So my guess that the problem lies in the steering column. This fj had a...

    1972 FJ40 Doors- Refurb

Just spray a whole can in there. Will have to do more but that should at least help with the rust getting worse. Now to get some new weather stripping!

    1972 FJ40 Doors- Refurb

I was wondering if you could get just the gear for the crank mechanism or if you have to buy the part all together which seems to be the answer. Thanks.

    1972 FJ40 Doors- Refurb

85% of the gears teeth are shot. Everything else looks functional. The paint of the outside would be the issue since it’s a color from previous owner. I could always just do black I guess. Thanks.

    1972 FJ40 Doors- Refurb

Update; the first door most off the rust has been removed but pouring a bottle of rust remover in the inside and put in a few garbage bags. Did pretty good and now I will just spray some paint in. Doesn’t look like they are meant to keep out water. The second door had this problem; the window...
