    Builds 1988 BJ74 “Number 1”

The FRP top on my BJ73 is quite strong. I believe there is significant plywood sandwiched between the layers of glass. If the load is spread out accross the roof and not isolated on small spots it is quite strong. IE my full length roof rack is bolted to unistrut channel which is bolted and...

You've really done some good work finding your problem. I hate to tell you this, but you're on your way to becoming one of those guys who knows more about his cars than the people he needs to fix them because he doesn't have time to do it himself. Your only hope to escape the frustration is...

I'm going to assume your first priority is to make your truck run reliably with as little waste of time and money as possible. I also believe that your problem is that air is getting in the fuel lines and causing the lift pump to lose prime. 1. buy a cheap electric fuel pump and put it in...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Sometimes you can clamp down on the outside of a line wrench/crows foot with a set of vise grips to keep the wrench from spreading. Always better to have a top quality tool though.

Builds Unicorns are real... My dream car FJ73 build

vinegar flush killed my china aluminum radiator. It's a shame that it is so expensive now to get a radiator recored. In 91' in rural upstate SC I paid $140 to recore the radiator on my FJ40. Adjusted for inflation that would be $319 today. I haven't heard of anyone mention a price of...

You're doing awesome work on patching those panels man. ...I've got issues with the 73. I kind of want to move on to something else, but in the search for a windshield frame and some engine parts I found some cool stuff on Alibaba. I'm going to send you a PM. But here's a teaser related to...

We all need to figure out how to make rough patch welds and repairs look cool. As in being stylish not to look perfect.

Did you remove the valves from the valve stems? I tried once only deflating the tire and it wouldn't work. Once I removed the valves from the stems it did. 2x4 and driving up on the tire method.

What did you do on your 70 series today?

That's some really nice looking work you've got going there. It really takes alot of time to make it fit that good and look that nice. The price of aftermarket bumpers is justified. You can make a strong simple and a little rough bumper much cheaper, but it takes alot of time to make it...

Putting any kind of solvent in your oil to "clean the inside of the engine" whether it's sea foam, motor flush, or anything else will break free baked on greasy gun from your engine and cause it to start circulating in your oil. There is risk in this because metal particals and debris that...

When sealing with silicone RTV it is best to 1. Let is setup for quite a while before you tighten snug and then a while longer before you torque down. 2. Don't use so much RTV that chunks of RTV get squeezed into the engine to break off and clog important oil and water pathways.

    Tall skinny tires

I considered XZL's at one point. I liked the way the look and the Idea of them reportedly being a very durable tire. I searched alot. This is the only reasonable prices I could find on XZL in North America: 8.25R16 Michelin XZL g wagon | Military Tires -...

Finding and knowing about those old "motor rewind shops" that repair electric motors, generators, alternators etc. Is awesome knowledge.

There is nothing wrong with your cold start. It started right?. If you can get just one cylinder to fire and start banging the others over that's awesome! It's character. Sort of like seeing a big radial engine on an old plane belching catching and firing over...(not saying you don't have...

Rear door fold down tables are awesome. Combined with some small storage inside the rear doors is even better. I love mine. whether it's a serving tray or cooking pad for a meal, or a place to cut up fish bait and rig up. As awesome as it is the auto makers would be fools not to put this on...

My 81 isuzu tranny had a bad input bearing on the main shaft. Incredibly expensive to rebuild back then. My dad spent the money and it lasted less than 2 years before it went out. I'm sure we got ripped off by the rebuild shop. Used tranny likely hard to find. Suggest you drive it till it breaks.
