    Driver side window not working

Not sure if your problem is the same as mine, but this was happening to me (especially in cold weather) and the little vinyl/plastic rollers in the tracks of the scissor-like mechanism that operates the window eventually deleted themselves and my window glass fell into the door. Not fun...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Update: 5 minutes into my first test drive, MIL/CEL is back, this time with 26, running rich. Weird, but at least familiar. Edit: turned off after some more driving. Satisfying but not diagnostically helpful😂 The idle is a little low when just reaching operating temp (~600RPM) but other than...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Managed to snag a new one from Toyota, but good ideas for when someone inevitably runs into the same issue!

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Okay, finally had time to put in a new distributor (thank you @South Texas 97). It went about as smooth as one can ask for! I chose not to remove the valve cover, mostly just to save time and to see if I could get everything in spec without doing so. I think I got it right. Followed the FSM...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Opened up the distributor to measure the air gap between the signal rotor and pickups. Then realized I’d have to turn the engine to turn the distributor, and I don’t have a shallow enough 30mm to turn the crankshaft bolt. Not sure it even really matters if I have no resistance from the G2 pickup...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Further multimeter test results: VAF: -VS-E2: 264.2 ohms ✅ -VC-E2: 282 ohms ✅ -THA-E2: 2.197 k ohms at 21° C ✅ IAC (just at pins, still intend to remove and clean): -B1-S1/S3: 21.1 ohms ✅ -B2-S2/S4: 21.1 ohms ✅ Quintuple checked G2 resistance on distributor, still nothing. VAF connector is...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

I’m hoping that the lack of signal from G2 on the distributor doesn’t require a full replacement of the distributor assembly. That’s currently a $635 fix🤢...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Thanks man. I’ll be poking around with my multimeter tomorrow and VAF is on my list. Side note, my Monster 796 is stuck in third after I replaced an exploded shift spring, but that’s an issue for another day and another forum😂

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Okay. Various parts came in, started with the lowest hanging fruit to avoid me tearing into things unnecessarily. To reiterate, my problems at this point are: -Hard start (feels like delayed ignition) -Rough/stumbling idle -Occasional, jolting RPM drops at speed -MIL/CEL codes for RPM signal...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Update: I’ve been limping the truck along, giving it ample time to warm up in the mornings. This has reduced the frequency of issues, but the past couple of days have been pretty rough. Because I had some free time this weekend, I went ahead and read over the FSM and came up with an attack...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Thanks @Malleus, the idle issues went away after replacing the cracked air intake hose. Unfortunately, the RPM-drop-under-throttle problem persists. It appears to be more frequent when the engine and ambient temp are cold. Regardless, IAC functions check is still on my list of things to do, if...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

I did check the coolant temp sensor voltage at the ECU when I was suspecting something was up with transmission lockout, and it was showing the correct voltage per FSM. Are you referring to different sensor(s) or a different method of checking them? I’m all ears—hypothesis makes sense.

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Well, MIL/CEL 12 and 71 are back. Only other update from this week is that the truck performs terribly in the mornings, but normally in the evenings. The only thing I can think of that would affect it is that the ambient air temperature is lower in the morning than the evening. That, and the...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

x2 on the idea that the air intake hose had been leaking for a while. What’s infuriating is that I checked it before. It must have been cracked in between the ribbed sections where a quick look and feel didn’t show anything out of the ordinary. The engine overall feels more responsive and...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

For folks’ future reference, pictured above is 17881-66060. Existing one is jankily covered in duct tape while the new one is in the mail. This latest idle problem seems solved by patching up the hose. Will update thread when I get a vacuum tester to start working through EGR testing. I’m an...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Doesn’t explain the entire list of problems, and I still suspect EGR. I’m also 99% sure this happened while I was poking around checking things just before my original post. But at least the mysterious new idling issue is…no longer mysterious.

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Thank you everyone, coming up with a long laundry list of things to check. New as of today: truck won’t hold an idle. Super cool as I need to take my dog to the vet🙄. It’s colder today than it’s been in a while, that’s the only variable that’s changed. Edit: allowed it to warm up with...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

@thabruiser I'll have to check the sensor that determines RPM. Not sure which exact sensor that is yet. I think EGR sounds like the culprit (or at least a culprit) @voodu3 Haven't checked timing as I assumed it was fine. I'll have to do that. Although I have no compunctions about ripping the...

Assorted Engine Troubles: A Thesis and a Cry for Help

Hi everyone, and welcome to my TED talk. 1993 FZJ80 @ 339k mi. TL;DR: I've had weird engine symptoms since I owned the truck in 2018 at 308k mi, generally involving random bouts of poor idling. Now the truck is having increasingly more frequent drops in RPM under throttle (in gear and...
