Not sure if your problem is the same as mine, but this was happening to me (especially in cold weather) and the little vinyl/plastic rollers in the tracks of the scissor-like mechanism that operates the window eventually deleted themselves and my window glass fell into the door. Not fun...
Update: 5 minutes into my first test drive, MIL/CEL is back, this time with 26, running rich. Weird, but at least familiar.

Okay, finally had time to put in a new distributor (thank you @South Texas 97). It went about as smooth as one can ask for!
I chose not to remove the valve cover, mostly just to save time and to see if I could get everything in spec without doing so. I think I got it right.
Followed the FSM...
Opened up the distributor to measure the air gap between the signal rotor and pickups. Then realized I’d have to turn the engine to turn the distributor, and I don’t have a shallow enough 30mm to turn the crankshaft bolt. Not sure it even really matters if I have no resistance from the G2 pickup...
Further multimeter test results:
VAF:
-VS-E2: 264.2 ohms ✅
-VC-E2: 282 ohms ✅
-THA-E2: 2.197 k ohms at 21° C ✅
IAC (just at pins, still intend to remove and clean):
-B1-S1/S3: 21.1 ohms ✅
-B2-S2/S4: 21.1 ohms ✅
Quintuple checked G2 resistance on distributor, still nothing.

I’m hoping that the lack of signal from G2 on the distributor doesn’t require a full replacement of the distributor assembly. That’s currently a $635 fix🤢...

Okay. Various parts came in, started with the lowest hanging fruit to avoid me tearing into things unnecessarily.
To reiterate, my problems at this point are:
-Hard start (feels like delayed ignition)
-Rough/stumbling idle
-Occasional, jolting RPM drops at speed
-MIL/CEL codes for RPM signal...

I did check the coolant temp sensor voltage at the ECU when I was suspecting something was up with transmission lockout, and it was showing the correct voltage per FSM.
Are you referring to different sensor(s) or a different method of checking them? I’m all ears—hypothesis makes sense.
Well, MIL/CEL 12 and 71 are back.
Only other update from this week is that the truck performs terribly in the mornings, but normally in the evenings. The only thing I can think of that would affect it is that the ambient air temperature is lower in the morning than the evening.

Doesn’t explain the entire list of problems, and I still suspect EGR. I’m also 99% sure this happened while I was poking around checking things just before my original post. But at least the mysterious new idling issue is…no longer mysterious.
