Thank you. I have the top schematic. Mine does not have the retaining clips and I didn’t have the bottom schematic. That clears up how it should be and now to finish up the rebuild of the brake system

    Drum brake springs

I know the front spring is suppose to be behind the shoes and the back spring in front but why? I have not seen this on other cars with drum brakes. Just curious. Thanks

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

69FJ40: Removed the fender to facilitate installing rebuilt steering box. I knew the PO didn’t disassemble to paint but wasn’t expecting this. And now I can clearly see the brake master is leaking. More of the same.

Probably correct. The frame number (70310) should be the third week in June of ‘69. Haven’t been able to find a kit for that build period. If anyone knows a source please let me know. Thanks for the help!

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Fired up my 30yr old HF sand blaster to cleanup the bezel and removed two coats of rubberized undercoat and one coat of flat black paint. Plug welded two license plate holes. Now to cleanup and paint.

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Need to restore top on '69FJ40. PO installed new headliner with no regard to weatherstrip condition or rust. I used 6mil plastic and golf tees to protect the headliner. Treated the rust and replaced a few rivets. Test fitting weatherstrip over tees worked well and helped identify a few holes...

    What paint is this?

Ok. Here is what is working. I laid a shop rag over the area to be striped and I soaked it with xylene. After 20 minutes I removed the rag and used a soft wood stirrer to push off the heavy material. Then I wiped the area down with mineral spirits.

    What paint is this?

Haven’t gone for the lacquer thinner yet. The polycarbonate wheel is a little too aggressive and it gums up with the black gunk. I tried the heat gun on low with a putty knife and this will remove the top red layer and half of the gunk. Mineral spirits removed the rest of the black material. I...

    What paint is this?

Thank you. A collective group of good ideas. Now to rank them in order of ease of use and cost and start testing. Of course I have to start at Harbor Freight because as my wife says, “any excuse to buy a new tool”.

    What paint is this?

Not a bad idea. I don't want to mess up the underside if possible. I will try a heat gun first. The PO didn’t spend any time on prep. Painted over dirt and rust.
