The EDIC relay is quite easy to pull apart for inspection as well Giles. Basically, once removed from the under glovebox location, you can bend back the tabs and remove the cover allowing access to the contacts and pcb for cleaning and checking.
Mr Landcruiser here in oz often have to pull...
Hi Giles,
I had exactly the same issue with my 1979 BJ40. I'm not sure if you can get to my thread with the link below but you should be able to find it through my signature if not.
The EDIC system is essentially the edic motor and the edit control relay. I went through the system as you can...
Just ordered a rear wheel bearing kit.
Not sure in 4wd.... Only occurs at the 70-80kph mark so not been at those speeds in 4wd to be honest.
It's not the first time I've heard engine mounts mentioned, I'll check those. Thanks for the suggestions.
Hi all,
I've had a search but not found anything that gave me the "aha" moment.
BJ40 1979 R/H drive, has developed a rumble/hum at approximately 75 - 80 kmh (45 - 50 mph) but only when driving around a slight L/H bend in the road. The noise disappears when I straighten out or turn the wheel to...
Hey there, I had exactly the same issue. Hopefully the link will take you to my thread about it. It was a simple fix. From memory I had to remove the barrel, turn it 180deg and re-instate. Just have a play with it in different positions, you'll get it.
Good luck.
Ambulance doors door lock...
I had a similar experience with my BJ40 shortly after I purchased.
My clutch slave cylinder failed as I was driving home from the purchase. When I replaced the slave cylinder and bled the system, like you I had no clutch.
I found after several re bleeds of the system, the problem wasn't with...
Correct. I gave the hydraulics guy the old hoses, just the bolts will suffice for sizing the banjo correctly. I picked up new aluminium washers X8 for the banjo fittings. In my picture you may also be able to see spacers I made to raise the filter housing up a little. This gave me space to...
Hi there, not sure if this is of any help but I recently replaced my hoses from the lift pump to the filter and returning to the IP. Had them made up by the local hydraulic hose guy.
Update.
The issue did in fact return.
I proceeded to remove edit motor as detailed in other posts on here, and clean/re-grease as required. Same issue...
Removed and inspect fuel relay. OK but issue remained.
Remove and test ignition switch. There it is.... an issue with the switch...
I would be interested for my 1979 BJ40. Part number for the fuel control relay is
28590-56011
I think your point 3) plug and play with reproduction correct plug would be ideal.
Great idea, cheers, Neil.
Update.
So, I took the advice offered by you guys and think I have solved the issue.
Deadsalt suggested....
I did pull over and open the bonnet during a billowing smoke episode and, sure enough, the EDIC arm was in the the start "overfuel" position. I stopped the engine, left it off for a...
On my 1979 BJ40. Picked up a well used 8274....
Stripped, cleaned, inspected everything and replaced damaged needle roller bearings in top housing with bushing modification. Also lucky enough to find brand new winch drum and cable at bargain price (seller updated to air release brake drum and...
Hi all,
this is going to sound a bit ridiculous but I cannot work out what I'm doing wrong (if anything) with my new ambulance door lock.
I've installed a new OEM lock and it went in with no issues. The problem I have is that I cannot seem to remove the key in an unlocked state.
I want to be...
Thanks Deadsalt, understand what you're describing and will follow up.
I was moving the IP lever with the EDIC arm disconnected, engine not running, just to get a feel of how the IP lever moved through it's range. This is when I noticed the return from overinjection position back to drive...
