Also not sure I ever posted these, even on SM, but had some custom brake shoes made with meatier pad compound DIMs. Means the outside diameter of the shoes are just a tad larger so they bite into the inside of the drum earlier and more aggressively.
Kinda bit off more than I can chew with the rear EPB and big brake setup and haven't gotten to doing more this past year. Still looking around for a spare full float axle so I don't put either of the 80's on jack stands for who knows how long it would take at this rate... No excuses, I need to...
Been some trials and tribulations with the rear kit. I do occasionally post minor updates on IG, and larger updates here on mud. Tried consolidating my "lite" and "full rear" versions into one where I maintained the stock rear rotor, and mated it to the electronic parking brake and a matched...
Unfortunately no update yet, with the new career shift and keeping busy with winter sports/activities here in BC I just haven't had the mental capacity to focus on the rear kit properly. Summer now, so might try and order the rear Wilwood calipers soon, start taking measurements, and mocking up...
Welcome Brandon!
Can definitely vouch for Baja Designs warranty. Couple months ago I noticed my LP9's body was discolored and coating was starting to peel and the bracket having some rust issues. Sent them in and got them back in about 2 weeks(to Canada) fully repaired like new! No hassle...
Superlite caliper wont fit factory rear rotor sadly, as the caliper doesn't clear the rotor hat OD. I'll revisit the plan to do 14.25" rear with electronic pb eventually.
Rear will be modular, adding ePB later. But for the time being I had Porterfield make me custom shoes pads that are...
Unfortunately no major progress. Huge grind with day job to get projects out the door before the end of the year, then slight bit of a career shift to kick off the new year(for better).
Update on brakes...
Rear options will be consolidated, found a 4 piston Wilwood caliper that will work...
That is only if you keep the same backspacing(given same width)/wheel offset.
Higher backspacing means the wheels themselves are mounted further in. For example, given same wheel width, a 4" backspace vs 5.5" backspace, the 5.5" backspace is 1.5" further in and closer to the frame.
Edit: To...
My own matched front and rear making it the only brake kit for the 80 with correct brake bias AND significantly increased stopping power.
Stopping a 6k lb 80 on 38's better than our bone stock LX450 with refreshed brakes
So might be the first person here to actually have done WPC treatment on ring and pinion gears. Correct me if I'm wrong.... I think @scottryana posted once about planning to do them. Also Cryo treatment done first by CTP cryogenics who have an exclusive vacuum insulation process that gets to...
Unfortunately not worth designing, or even buying for that matter, a big brake kit to fit under 16" wheels. If we take a look at all modern SUV's or even CUV's with respectable braking performance, almost everything is 17"+ to clear brakes.
I'm personally not a big fan of the whole pre-order...
Just to clarify these will be sold as matched front and rear kit in order to keep correct brake bias. Whether that's the lite version with rotor and high friction pad upgrade or full rear kit with larger rotor and aftermarket caliper for the rear.
That being said I'm running through a list of...
81's are all RHD that are Japanese Domestic Market(JDM). HDJ81 or FZJ81. Though not sure the FZJ was officially ever stamped as 81, mostly just spoken word. I just went with it so people know mine isn't diesel.
Speaking of our LX I never posted about it on here. Picked up early this year around April for a pretty good steal. Canada market 97 LX. I'm the third owner, 2nd owner had it for about a year but I'd say maintenance wasn't kept up and sat underneath a tree during that time(paint was filthy)...
Also just to add, having the shortest warranty of the main spring manufacturers available in NA of 2 yrs, they are of course past warranty length. OME, TJM, Tough Dog are all 3 years. Icon and Eibach seem to have lifetime warranty. Slee seems to be one year but I'll consider them a boutique...
Same truck, green 80. Our LX is bone stock.
The Tough Dog springs were the only ones that saw beach environment in NZ. Both saw driving on the east coast of Canada(salt/chemicals), roughly one year each.
Here's a comparison to the condition of my Tough Dog coils that are 4+ years old. First year in Canada were on these so saw the same road conditions as the Dobinsons. Tough Dog saw double the mileage and much more offroad use. Spent time living in coastal New Zealand, and driving out onto the...
