Hi all,
Sorry if this has been beaten to death but my valve cover is leaking. It was installed new 3 years ago when the top end was rebuilt. I just checked the bolts, I can't get anything on them with a 10mm but driver. Does that mean they were overtightened originally? Thanks
Hi Dan,
The 2 o-rings are just square profile epdm one easily purchased from McMaster Carr. Mine were in fine condition so I did not need to replace them. The dust covers need to be removed to install the ABS relocation kit when doing the part time manual hubs. To save the covers you'd have to...
You're exactly right and thanks for putting it so succinctly! What I ended up doing is sanding down two of the 100 series pads and using those as my inners. I put them on my bench disc sander and tried my best to apply equal pressure. Then I figure-eighted them by hand on some 60 grit paper on a...
Seems like I'm posting to myself here but anyway I'll keep going.
With the old powerstop rotors it's a little worse. The rotor sits a little closer to the engine side caliper housing.
Here's a better picture.
Here's my rig as it sits today. I've had to make three new hard brake lines as the old fittings were flared out to the point of splitting on the edge. Sometimes you can get away with the dremel trick, other times not.
Yeah these are Brembo rotors which have good ratings. The material you see which has been removed is for ultra- precise balancing of the rotor itself. Both have slightly different cuts like that. The faces where the pads run is what I'm measuring in the photos. The deflection or "wobble" is very...
Max deflection on the passengers side is .002" and .0015" on the driver's side rotors. This kinda tells me that there's nothing wonky with the bearings or the rotor-to-hub interface.
Yes I measured them against spec and they are within 2 tenths of a millimeter in offset and thickness. I put them on my surface plate and measured them with a mitutoyo height gage.
Here's an old thread that mostly talks about the possibility of a spun inner bearing race. They did not solve the problem in the thread.
Thread 'New rotor change, caliper rubbing!!!' New rotor change, caliper rubbing!!! - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/new-rotor-change-caliper-rubbing.289044/
Iknow this thread is over 10 years old. Did you ever find an answer for this issue? I'm having the same thing happening on my 93. Both new rotors are off-center in the caliper by enough distance that the new inner pads will not go in. The rotors appear too close to the engine but the bearings...
Just to re-cap the situation. I don't know if you can tell from these images but the rotor sits about .050" closer to the inside half of the brake caliper. Yes I split the caliper halves while doing the rebuild but even if I really messed that up it wouldn't account for the issue at hand. The...
Sorry cruiserdan I wasn't understanding you because those are called dust covers. By backing plates I thought you meant the anti squeal plates behind the pads. But the dust cover sits in front of the spindle correct?
