I hate this thread. I went from "this thing will last me 500k, I'm going to drive the wheels off of it. I'll take it anywhere" to now "my brakes might go out at any minute, time to sell."
I had this problem once. It was HOT under there. The seat brackets and my streamlight that I keep under there were very hot. My first thought was "Man, I need more insulation under here." Turns out my rear heater was on max at the foot level. I guess one of my kids was messing around with...
Got all the front driveline parts out after my front diff carnage. Pretty awesome that I can still drive around while I wait for my new locker and gears to be installed. There was a lot of shrapnel on the drain plug. Can't wait to see the carnage inside.
Those steps are all so you can remove the drive flanges to disengage the CV axles from the hubs. You don't remove the CV axles. Even if you wanted to, that big nut doesn't hold them in anyway. They pass through the bearings and adjuster and lock nuts and then they are splined into the drive...
Does anyone have a TJM locker hooked up to an ARB compressor? I already have the ARB in the rear with the ARB compressor so if I went with TJM, I'd have to buy the ARB solenoid actuation switch and harness separately. Don't know how much that would run me. The ARB is going to run me about...
I'm probably going to go TJM. I have an ARB in the rear but my buddy can get me a really good deal on the TJM.
In the back of my mind I'm wanting to save almost a grand and just do R&P. I tell myself I'll just be more careful. But after some of the stories, including mine, where the truck...

Climbing a ledge with rear ARB locked and center diff locked. 4LO
Right front stayed planted and wasn't spinning. Left front lifted and set back down and that's all she wrote.
What gears did you go with ? Did you install a locker up front ?
I called the dealership and was quoted $118 for ring and pinion (parts only ). Seems stupid cheap. I'm going to have to call again tomorrow to verify that. Did you buy the gears from the dealership ? I can get the install kit...
To do this job specifically you need :
flathead screwdriver : To pop your center cap off and also a thin flathead to pry your dust cap off
12mm socket - skid plate bolts
Lug wrench
Suitable jack : I used the factory bottle jack
14mm socket and 14mm wrench : for removing front drive shaft...
No hopping to speak of. Front wheels were bumping into the ledge while one was spinning. Front got up the ledge actually. Then I was trying to bump the rear tires up the ledge. I don't actually know specifically when the failure occurred because I never heard a bang or any unusual sounds...
Really awesome mod! Broke some teeth off my front ring gear today!
4LO climbing a ledge with the center diff locked and rear air locker engaged.
Got off the trail by pulling the drive flanges and front driveshaft and locking the center diff. I'll be in 2wd for a while now. The silver lining...
