You wrote that you want to ditch the AA style propeller. Any particular reason why? I'm trying to get a parts list for my own R2.8 conversion and I was gong to buy one.
I vote the new Cummins R2.8 crate engine. That's what I'm putting in mine in a few years. Guys are tuning it to get 225HP and 415ft/lbs of torque (which you get a 1500rpm). Also 25 mpg sounds pretty freaking awesome for road trips to Moab, I could have a 500 mile range with my stock late model...
Just read in my 4Wheeler magazine about their Ultimate Adventure 2017. They had two rigs in the group that had the 2.8 including the lead Heep. Apparently after a week of driving over a thousand miles of everything from hardcore rock crawling to pavement the 2.8s used one THIRD the fuel (66%...
Hey this is probably old news for you guys, but did you know they already make a tuner for this engine overseas?
Check out this link: Foton Tunland 2.8L ISF (177 PS / 365 Nm) Diesel Tuning
The mild tune is for 202bhp (not sure the conversion) and 313 ft/lb
The max tune is for 223 bhp and 361...
I got the approval from my wife to order an R2.8....at the end of next year. Still consider it a huge win though. I've been researching this engine a lot and I don't think they could make it any easier to do the swap. You literally just have to connect ONE wire to your existing harness (Ignition...
Can't wait to see your build. My biggest worry with this swap is having enough rear driveshaft left after all the adapters. Maybe a dumb question, but why go with the split case instead of an Orion one piece? The 4:1 seems like it would be an awesome upgrade for wheeling.
Tuners are getting an easy +50 hp and + 60 tq out of the 2.8 Duramax. It’ll be fun to see what they can get out of this Cummins. Perfect engine for a 40 imo.
I'll have to research this. My local cruiserhead mechanic recommended the 2FE few years ago and strongly discouraged a SBC swap. That was before the Cummins was announced though.
I like to drive my 79 in the late spring, summer, early fall but my biggest gripe is it just can't handle the hills where I live. The 2F just lugs up the steep grades on the highway I drive to work on, like it can barely sustain 45mph up the steepest sections. There's a guy near where I live...
I'm a one banana (if that) mechanic and I was constantly having issues with my rear drums. Those dang things wouldn't stop straight even after adjusting them and having a brake shop work on them. Finally, I just bit the bullet and replaced them with discs following Poser's guide. Again, I'm a...
I'm a mechanical idiot and did a disc conversion a couple weeks ago and couldn't believe how easy it was. You may want to look into it if you keep having issues with the drums. I stop straight as an arrow now with zero pulling and zero squealing. Massive improvement.
I'm sure it is, but you'd have to fab your own brackets and find and machine your own rotors etc. The Monte Carlo conversion is so dead stupid simple that my buddy and I kept looking at each other wondering what we were missing because it seemed too easy to do.
It's on my to do list. If my wife sees another cruiser related item I will have some serious explaining to do. I forgot to mention in my first post that I also bought a sweet bull bar from lcwizard and a winch.
We're going to run Fins N Things and Hell's Revenge. We're planning on bypassing the harder stuff on Hell's Revenge. Can't wait to see how the 40 does on a real trail!
Yeah the Aussie even feels weird when I'm shifting gears and giving power, like a tiny little shimmy back there even when I'm going straight. Maybe I'm just being nitpicky. Luckily mine makes almost zero noise, probably because the rest of my rig is so loud.
I'm going to Moab in less than two weeks and I've been upgrading, modding my 79 40 for a couple months now. I've done some other easier mods like putting in a new OEM radiator and some new Aising hubs, but these were the big mods I've finished up in the last week. Please note these were way, way...
I just started my Sagin conversion yesterday after gathering all the parts. I would agree the hardest part was getting the old mount off. I drilled a small hole about half way down the rivet, then cut off the rivet head with a angle grinder. Then I used a cheap punch and a bfh to punch them out...
So I've been accumulating parts and I the list of mods have grown quite a bit. When my buddy saw that I was running Selectro locking hubs he said there's no way in hades he'd take those on the trail to Moab. Supposedly they're nicknamed "Ejectro" and have a tendency to launch off at inopportune...
I've read that this Amazon.com: Gates 364160 Pressure Hose: Automotive Heep high pressure hose fits perfect.
I ordered this OMIX-ADA Power Steering Hoses 18014.01 for a low pressure hose. I'm still in the collecting parts stage of my Sag conversion too. I did find the Jeep J20 (the one with...
