1974 FJ40 Brake Pull left and drivers side won't stay adjusted.

Bringing my old post back from the dead with same problem. I used coolerman's instructions to rebuild all of the brake cylinders. Most where stuck and needed to be rebuild. I put the mismatched brake cylinders in their proper spots. I followed the diagram for shoe spring placement. I had to...

Took the brake cylinders off. A few of the pistons where stuck. I assume from sitting. Bores looks decent. Looking at coolermans site on how to rebuild the cylinders. Can't find any rebuild kits locally. Any good source for those online?

I saw a similar picture before but never notice the brake lining.

Yes, it looks like that is the problem.

Took off rear drums. This is the rear passenger side. Front cylinder has a narrowed neck. This is the rear drivers side. No narrowed neck. Also both rear wheel cylinders on passenger and drivers side have the adjusting locking metal lever facing inside. How do I tell where the cylinders belong...

That makes sense. I'm going to take off the rears this week. Maybe the narrow necked one was put on the back wheel? Looks more and more like I probably need to buy a new set. At least for the front. Thank you

Any thoughts on the different wheel cylinder? The picture you attached looks like 3 of the wheel cylinders I have. There is one with no neck or narrowed section. Could that be affecting the brakes, or it is just an aftermarket wheel cylinder?

Probably a dumb question. But this needs to be done with the drums and wheels on?

If you look at the last picture (passenger side). The front wheel cylinder necks down. The rear cylinder has no neck down/step down? All front wheel cylinders (haven't taken off the rears yet) have this neck except the passenger side rear wheel cylinder. Passenger rear wheel is just straight...

Finally got time to get the front brake drums off. Passenger side has a rear wheel cylinder that is not the same as the other three? No neck. Could that be the problem? All Wheel cylinders adjusters are able to rotate in both direction. Passenger rear cylinder was tight but loosened up...

That makes sense. I will take it apart and look at it. I assume if the cylinder adjusters don't turn then they are frozen and need to be rebuilt.

Yes. 1974. Drums on all 4. I will take it apart this week to look at it. Previous owner said he replace shoes and cylinders about 12-14 years ago but it has sat for most of that time. 12 years geez. How time flies. I thought it was like 6 or 7 years. Had to sit down and figure it out. Thanks...
