I just swapped my 1996 engine into my 1994 Landcruiser. I found it was not worth the extra work to swap everything over so just did the long block. I had a few helpful gurus from this board message or talk with my by phone to sort out which direction was best. In the end, the route I took was...
I am in the process of swapping my 1996 engine to my new to me 1994 Landcruiser.
While I am in there I am doing the following:
Rear main seal
Crankshaft seal
Oil pump seal
New water pump
New blue hub fan clutch
Replace belts and hoses
New radiator
New plug wires and plugs
That is all I can...
It sounds like your truck is possessed and needs to hack out a few more of those hairballs. I don't know that I would want to take a road trip like that. Hopefully someone can give a more educated guess as to the nature of these demons. You haven't been looking at Jeeps lately have you?
Try looking on the local classifieds sections in the areas that you are focusing on. I know that there are Craigslist search engines that do some of that for you. I looked in the Mud Classifieds today and saw some fair deals, but there will be fair ones and higher ones. I realize that the...
Mike, I am parting out my 1996 but don't have it advertised yet as I will still be getting some parts off of it for the 1994 that I just bought. Message me if you need anything.
Also, I am sorry for your loss. As you can see from my family picture, we lost my wife to cancer just over a year...
If you are looking for a good, clean rig for a fair price and not wanting to worry about hidden, or covered up problems, avoid fleabay. I think all three of those are too high priced. I bought my 1996 with 155,000 miles and factory lockers for $3800. I know that I stole it at that price, but...
It looks like the previous owner/seller tried to cover up some of that rust to make it hard to see in the pictures. It seems that the undercarriage and lower doors have been spray painted in places to cover that stuff up. Is that what you are seeing as well? If so that bothers me more than...
Time for an update:
I got the roof jacked out enough to get another windshield in and had the windshield guy confirm it would work. In the meantime, another donor caught my eye at a mechanic shop here in town. The owner had added snake oil to it hoping to mask a head gasket problem and the...
I wouldn't do more than $6000 for the one you listed above and would only go that high because it looks to be so clean. Where I live that is a $5000 truck with a lift and bigger tires on it.
I have rented from Uhaul twice to haul my "1996 Toyota 4 Runner". Their trailers are rated for 5000 pounds and fit the Landcruiser just fine. The Landcruiser comes well under the weight rating that they have quoted me. As said by others, I just rent it and load up elsewhere. Never had a...
Thanks John. I gave up and called him today. I plan on putting a cage in there before I have the glass installed so just wanted to make sure I had gotten it right before I do that.
So, I have nearly finished pushing out the roof from the rollover I had nearly two months ago. Once completed I will have a windshield installed again and put an internal roll cage in so I can hit the trails. Today I celebrated the accomplishment of having a working sunroof again! I have...
I thought all the Landcruisers of this vintage had the factory undercoating option? I know mine kept itself covered with grease/oil from the undercoating spray valve next to the front engine oil seal.
If wanting to part it out, you have to ask yourself if you have a place to store it, time to sit and wait, time to pull the parts off, time to message people, wait for them to show up, time to pack and ship the parts, etc.
Perhaps you can message me with some of the details. I am looking for a...
1996 with 153,000 and factory lockers, unmodified, head gasket done 3000 miles ago and birfields done before I took it home $3600. Too bad I rolled it :( .
Good job!!! I hope to find a suitable donor to swap my drivetrain into some day. What is your level of mechanical experience and how long did this take you to do?
I would flush the system myself and put the Toyota red coolant in it. I would rather have the piece of mind knowing it was done right and learn from my mistake than have that in the back of my head as I am trying to enjoy my cruiser.
