Starting to get rid of the rot. Drivers side quarter panel chop is done. Still gotta grind down more welds and apply bondo. Little harbor freight flux core welder put in some work today. It's not perfect, this is a trail rig-but it'll keep water out at least. Also need to cut a new hole for the...
More progress- I got the blue hub fan clutch and a/c compressor on. Still need things, which I have an order from Partsoq coming in. Getting closer to being able to fire it up.
I also started the body work on the roof. What a pain it is trying to re-shape the end of the raised section. It won'...
I have searched for awhile for a straight answer on where to get the 2 bolts for the starter. I beleive one is a bellhousing bolt, and one is a longer bolt of some sort. I searched Toyota Parts Deal and CruiserParts and could not find them. Either I overlooked them or i just can't find them...
While I wait for another box of goodies from Wits End, I decided to start on the body work on the roof, which I never got to. I brought a dent puller from Harbor Freight. This is going to be a difficult repair, it won't be perfect as it's a trail rig and will be Raptor Lined anyway.
Got the new water pump on. This motor is going to need a good flush. The coolant that dripped out was mostly liquid, but what was left when i removed the water pump seemed sludgy and brown colored. Didnt smell oil, from what i could tell. None of it looked green. Did Toyota use a red coolant at...
Got some work done yesterday. I got the fuel lines connected, and a power steering line. I am going to upgrade the power steering cooler from Wits End, so I didn't bother with the paperclip shaped one. I cleaned out the oil cooler, and put in a Denso alternator I had laying on the shelf. I'll...
Took the day off work to get some of my own work done. I got the motor in and bolted down. I have the transmission being held up by a ratchet strap to take stress off the bellhousing bolts. I could not find the motor mount bolts, so I had to run to the hardware store. Now the fun begins.
Picked up another transmission last weekend. Got it bolted up to the motor.
Hoping to get it back in the rig either this weekend or next, if i can find the motor mount bolts. The sooner i can get it in, i can roll it into the garage here, which has a heater.
Got both motors next to each other. Started swapping some parts around.
Going to end up needing a trans. Current one i ended up cracking trying to get the shift rod out..fck! Accidents happen, but I do not trust jb weld.
Got the front part of the frame coated. The plan is to get parts on the motor fixed or replaced while it's in the garage, connect the trans and put it all back in. The reasoning behind that is I will be able to access parts that may be difficult to access once the motor is in.
As for the...
As far as the transmission, it needs a flush and fresh filter. Broke a bolt where the shifter linkage goes, so i need to figure out if that's something i can replace, along with a plug for a sensor that was there.
Going to start diggin into this motor and trans shortly after I finish my main...
Got the motor home Sat evening. It's got 220k on it. The guy got the rig for parts, and doesn't know much except for that she runs.
Going to be replacing:
-Radiator hoses
-power steering pump hoses
-plugs/wires/cap
-any other hoses around the intake etc that are brittle
-front main seal
-rear...
I secured a replacement motor which I am going to pick up on Saturday. Excited about gathering parts to put her back together! Already thinking about some small upgrades to the motor.
