What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Mine has cost me $600 so far, not including lights or winch, assuming my time and effort is counted as free. The bull bar is obviously easy to omit when you make exactly what you want. * Insert shameless pic re-whoring here *

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

I use it to cover up my poor fabrication skills. If I was going the lazy route and just bought my bumpers, I'd probably powder coat them.

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

They were on it when I got it, so I've been with them for 50,000km. No moisture, no cracks. Original light output was garbage, but the low beams are protector housings so i put hids in and they work well now. I don't use the high beams cause they're still halogen. The little leds and halos...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Emptied a rattle can onto the new bumper for now and put all the stuff on it just so I could enjoy driving around for a bit while thinking of any last changes before committing to raptor.

Builds Mail Order Ride - My HDJ81

Spent the last couple days welding grinding and mucking around. Turns out I'm still a terrible welder, so I had to cut a bunch of porous welds and redo them. Still not perfectly smooth, but whatever, it'll be covered by bedliner. I also realized my mistake of the skid plate angle being too...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Nowhere, at the moment. I'm not professionally a welder or engineer or fabricator or anything related to the sale of vehicular armor and my understanding is that selling a bumper might come with a lot of potential liabilities to navigate.

The main center section of the bumper forms a box around the frame, so it's bolted to the factory captive nuts on top, bottom and sides. I used some cardboard or washers during assembly to make sure there's a small space so it doesn't end up too tight over the frame. This will also allow me to...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Finally got my hands to the dirty stage on a new arts and crafts project.

...And then got the rest of the main structure put together today. It all fit together like a dream, or a model kit from the store. There's so much still to do, but I'm pretty damn pleased with it so far. Went for a drive to see it in the real world, and I'm pumped. I've got gussets to...

Update Time. This has been many months in the works, but I'm finally making REAL excitement inducing progress. Back in winter I took a bunch of measurements of the front of the truck and started teaching myself to play in Inventor. I built a jig of the front of the truck in the program...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Please elaborate somewhat on this. My trailer adapter does the same thing, but my "fix" was to add a plug and connector so I could disconnect the trailer box whenever I didn't need it. I sure would like to be able to signal when pulling a trailer and using cruise though. Looks like you just...

Ok, electricity stage 1. I made up a battery box in Inventor and after waiting too long for a buddy to get the metal cut, I paid some dude with a plasma table in his garage to do it. Then I borrowed a little vice mounted brake to bend and then weld these 14g pieces up. I cut and bent some...

I've heard good things, these are two Group 34s. They weren't cheap, that's for damn sure. My existing batteries look like this right now, and need to be charged if i don't drive it weekly.

A buddy gave me a roll of appropriate rubber a while ago, and I finally got around to making it into mud flaps. I like the look of them, and the way they keep things clean, and the fact that I f***ing hate getting rock chips, so i probably shouldn't be giving them to other people. Did both...

Woah, I ain't updated this in a while. I guess back to the alignment after the TRE job. I ended up not happy with the feel of it, and I was going on a big road trip so I managed to get it done on the morning we left. Felt much better. Those TREs ended up rusting like crazy in no time...

Looking for feedback on HDJ81 for US use

If I was going to be relying on shops to do the work for me, I wouldn't dare drive any vehicle more than 10 years old. :meh:

    Grinding/vibrating noise on deceleration?

Don't even check the U joints, just replace them. I threw parts after the same sort of vibration, with a 4" or so lift, but never did my rear Ujoints because they felt fine. Learned to live with the noise/vibes. Rear joint finally felt bad a couple years later, so i replaced it, vibes gone...
