    Building a 6’ 30Ton press brake - am I crazy?

It BENDS stuff! Got my dies built and attached the doe holder to the traveler beam - put the jack in place and did a test bend. Still a lot of fiddly bits, but it’s operational now!

    Building a 6’ 30Ton press brake - am I crazy?

Well I got a bunch more done, long way to go before I’m making body parts, but closer by the hour! Main frame is welded together and I’ve started with the working bits. Got parts prepped for the upper die holder, and got the lower die in place and started welding. Here is Episode 2:

    Building a 6’ 30Ton press brake - am I crazy?

Well, I managed to get the main frame structure welded together today, was interesting flipping it over to weld the other side... involved a lot of “I probably shouldn’t be doing this” and “dont fall, don’t fall.... please don’t fall” After measuring 27 times, and then a few more - I tacked...

    welder advice (miller)

Check out Eastwood, their small MIG machines are pretty cost effective. I used to have a big high end Miller. Sold it and now do all my stuff with a no-name $500 110V machine. Does everything I’ve needed. I’ve welded everything from bodywork sheet metal to my backhoe thumb (3/4”) and my...

    Building a 6’ 30Ton press brake - am I crazy?

Yep, you read that right! (And yes I am crazy) After working through the body restoration of my LandCruiser BJ70 I learned a lot about shaping metal. —> that thread here (Saving the Silver 70) One of the tools that I really couldn’t have done it without was a little 14” die that I made for...

    Oooops, I, did it again....

Boy did this project get stalled.... Just like the other 40 in the garage. Well hey, why not start another!! So, now I’m going to build a press brake so I can make the panels I need, and I’m also going to bring the 45 into the shop to strip the body off and start digging into the frame on that...

How to fix your 80's broken dash vents.... For free!

If I recall, I think I just pulled them out? Unfortunately my memory doesn’t work well from 4 years ago! It can’t have been overly complicated or I wouldn’t have bothered doing it

GM 03 Tahoe interior LED conversion

Not familliar with the control system You are using but if it’s a CAN bus controller it may be that it doesn’t see enough resistance from the LED. (Similar to when you swap to LED turn signals and they flash too fast). You may be able to get a different bulb that has a small resistor in it to...

What Did You Do With Your 120 Today?

Woohooo!!! Got it plated finally! Legal for the road, time to play! That said, I still have not located a rear wiper motor, and it’s been strongly suggested that I replace the trans cooler lines as they are quite rusted.... any good sources?

What Did You Do With Your 120 Today?

Went fishin... For wire... and caught it! Fished an accessory power wire up to the roof center console for a power outlet. Went up under the door seal, then across just forward of the grab handle, over top of the airbag, and under the sunroof track. For the last section (under the sunroof...

What Did You Do With Your 120 Today?

Went for another drive after clearing the codes. First drive turned up nothing, second drive brought the lights back, but so far only the P0430. I think the other codes (correct me if I’m wrong) may be because I did the rear brake lines, and probably had the pedal on the floor a bunch of...

What Did You Do With Your 120 Today?

Well, did a first test run and got a whole 9.3 KM and got the dash light up just before I got home. P0430, C1201, C1223, C1256. I’ve read so far could be; 02 sensor, dirty MAF sensor, loose gas cap.... have a list of the P codes but not the C codes, is there an easy list somewhere? And...

    40 + 80 = 120

Jeez, I didn’t know we had to add them all together.... 30(half a 60) +40+40+45+45+70+80+120... technically now I have “LandCruiser 400”? Oh boy.

What Did You Do With Your 120 Today?

Not to mention if it was Panama this would be a Prado, and diesel.... sigh... one day... Agreed!! But mainly because of country borders.... pretty much as far south as I can get until I somehow manage to get a Panama visa.... ;)

What Did You Do With Your 120 Today?

Painted the skid plates, re-installed the painted gas tank cover, needle scaled the rust on the frame welds on the front half (did the mid/rear earlier) cleaned the frame, painted the frame areas that I needle scaled with Eastwood rust encapsulator paint, and shot some inside the frame too...

What Did You Do With Your 120 Today?

It fought but I won... 2 of the bolt heads holding on the front skid plate on the GX were stripped, kind of concerning, makes me wonder when the last oil change was. (Oil looks fine). That said, they are out now, I welded 3/4” nuts to them and soaked them in PB while they were hot...

What Did You Do With Your 120 Today?

LED reverse lights yeehaw. About to attack a PS manifold leak. Yuck. I believe after that I’m down to an oil change and rear wiper motor repair, that should be all!
