!!!!IMPORTANT!!!! Each vehicle needs to have your updated State Land Trust Permit for this run as we do cross Trust Land!! It's $15 for a year permit and it's something you should have anyway, you can get it here, it's a 2 min process https://asld.secure.force.com/recreationalpermit/

Mark your calendars for the April 2023 Run of the Month! This run will take place northeast of Tucson, see below for more details! Thanks to @Stepmurr for sharing his vast knowledge of this area.

When: Saturday, April 15, 2023

MEETUP DETAILS: 9:30 AM at Oracle, AZ Circle K gas station
2000 W American Ave, Oracle, AZ 85623 2000 W American Ave · 2000 W American Ave, Oracle, AZ 85623 - https://goo.gl/maps/cvYXuWds2ivoNmWy9
After gassing up meet in the adjacent dirt lot. We will plan to pull out of the gas station by 9:45 AM sharp!

The meetup spot is about a 2-hour drive from the Phoenix Valley, so plan accordingly.

About the run:

This is one of the most scenic routes I've run if you are a fan of Sonoran desert flora: thick "forests" of saguaros, cholla, ocotillo, and more. The hope is that we will hit this area at a prime time for spring desert blooms! The trail is a loop and we will plan to make it to Bradberry Cabin and stop there for lunch (plan to bring your own) before continuing on to finish the loop.

The trail should be stoker friendly HOWEVER I would recommend at minimum rock rails/sliders, especially if you are not an "experienced" off-road driver.

This will be organized as a day trip and we will finish up with plenty of time to book it back to the Valley or Tucson, but I myself will plan to be camping Saturday night at a location TBD and invite anyone else keen on the idea to join me! (Possibly camping near Chimney Rock area)

We will be using HAM for trail communications and it is highly recommended that even if you are unlicensed that you carry a handheld HAM radio for listening purposes.

If you plan to attend please chime in below!

Well, too many work hours this week meant zero vehicle prep, so I’m sadly out. Perfect weather—have fun everyone and hope to make the next one.

Hey Guys,

I’m planning on writing up an article for Toyota Trails about today’s group run. The editor told me that if we post pics on Mud, he can’t really use them in the magazine (they want people to see them there first). I’ll set up a Dropbox link when we get home so feel free to drop any glamour shots in there or direct message them to me.

We had a total of 26 trucks attend this run, wow! Thanks everyone for coming out. Also, in my usual fashion, of course I had a flat, so thanks @Audiandvw and @cruzer971 for the hands to help me change it!

Wow @Abigail where did you get a flat?

Thanks for organizing this historic club run. I have never been on a more popular run and certainly have not been on one so large it needed two sections.

Had a great tyme and hope I didn’t wake anyone up when I drove off this morning.

I’ll post some pictures when I get to Moab Tuesday.

Not really sure, I woke up and had a flat! Tiny pin-prick sidewall puncture, it looks like. Must've happened and been such a slow leak I was still able to make it to camp without noticing.

can't wait to read it and see the pictures

How were the wildflowers? I don’t know when that area will peak.

Did either of those camp sites work out?

Lots of poppies and other colorful ground flowers were out! Ocotillo were budding but a week or two from blooming. Saguaros not blooming yet, I think they typically go in May. We ended up camping at Chimney Rock with 10 trucks. I saw one of the campsites you mentioned but it didn't look quite big enough for the group, would keep it in mind for a smaller assembly! The Soza Mesa site I didn't check out, it was off our route and I knew Chimney had the space we needed. Thank you for the suggestions, though!

Hey Everyone,

As I discussed earlier, below is a drop box link to upload any pictures you'd like to share for a potential Toyota Trails article. Thanks in advance for sharing.

Would have used dropbox but it asked for credit card information and the kicker last of SS

Are you serious?! That’s crazy. Let me look at the settings. It shouldn’t ask you for anything. Great pics though. You can always direct message them to me too.

Best,
Hank
