I've got a 38/38 with the adaptor plate - swapped over to a trollhole carb last fall. I can get some pictures tonight if you're interested.

Nope - nothing hangs up, I just threaded the new "cable" back through the old cable shroud...

Same thing happened to me. I pulled the knob / remaining cable from the housing. Cut the cable off and had my neighbor TIG weld a piece of filler rod to the end of the knob assembly. Works great!
