I pulled the transfer case today. The output bearing on the trans seems to be in the right place also there was obviously some heat build up because the seal between the transfer and transmission was hard as a rock. Everything in the t-case looks...
FWIW, losing 2nd usually means the rear bearing of trans has worn/failed letting the shaft slide back as mentioned. No there should not be 1/8 thrust travel on the gears. Given the noises in videos, I would think that the output of trans has...
I’ve thought about that nut but I haven’t had the tcase off since it was rebuilt. Second gear and third gear are able to shift about an 1/8 inch forward and backward on the shaft. Normal tolerance or?
This all started with it not going into 2nd gear. I pulled the transmission and had a look inside and couldn’t find any obvious issues. I then reinstalled it to do some more diagnosis and found that the shifter seat was cracked and the shifter...
Yeah I’ll open it up and take a look at that rear bearing. Would be really annoyed if that’s the case because it’s a KOYO bearing and has barely any KMs on it so will report back on that one.
FWIW the only time I lost 2nd and remainder worked was when the rear output bearing took a dump, lets output shaft and everything on it slide back a bit causing that 1,000 piece to not slide right. I dont think it can go back far enough fo rthe...
I did the rebuilding in question. Using what I thought were good quality parts, all the bearings and seals were replaced and I inspected all the gears/shafts when it went back together. Worked great for a few years then suddenly lost second...
Okay so basically from what I can tell in the H42 and H55(?) transmissions, only 3rd and 4th gear have the typical brass synchro gears. 1st and 2nd shift using a specialized 1000 dollar “ring” as toyota calls it or “piece” as everyone else seems...
So I had the same thing happen. Replaced the shifter bushing and the pins as well as the locking cup. Worked fine for a few days then stopped working again. Any ideas? My forks look identical to yours with the reverse protruding a touch.
Have had this happen. For my '87 it was that the two rivets in the tower were loose and allowed the shifter to move out of alignment, catching on the 'H' guards which shifting fork the shifter engages.
When it happens again, try letting off...
I have a 87 Land cruiser with a 4 speed transmission. The trans will not shift from 1st into 2nd gear, when moving. No problem going from 1st to 3rd or 4th while moving. Also, no problem shifting from 1st to 2nd while parked.
The car has a new...
