I might have missed that you replaced it recently but, possibly a thermostat. Just had the same symptoms and a new thermostat fixed my problems.

I have had plenty of 4runners and am now on my first land cruiser...I would take your time and sell your 4runner. Get the most you can for it, then take your time buying a land cruiser. I just did that with my 97 4runner and couldn't be happier.
