OK, I know this is going to be a very stupid question but here goes. What gear should my 96 80 (unlocked) be in when I start tearing down to front hubs to replace brake disks and pads? I've not worked on a 4 w/drive brake system before and noticed that they do not turn when in neutral...

Purchased some Centrix Positquiet brake pads ...got a good deal on em. (i know, but I'm on a budget). Anyway, Centrix says the fronts are 15 MM thick; the rears are 15.2 mm. Any Cruiser gurus know what the original Toyota front & rear brake pad thickness is? Want to avoid any fit problems...

Thanks for this writeup...I'm doing this in the next month...I was wondering how much more time I am looking at if I not only install pads and new rooters (Front)...but also go on to service the birfs...cleaning it up/new bearings/gasket kit/regrease? Also, this is basically my weekend drive...

First of all...many thanks the folks who contribute to this site...I've saved money that i really don't have...changed my ps pump, my starter contacts...to name a few easy 1 banana dyi's with your help. Now, my 96 80 series (i've had for about 10 yrs) is leaking oil after a valve cover gasket...

CruisingMogollon, Good info and pics; Question: Did you use any gasket sealant (Permatex) when you replaced that gasket...did mine about 3 wks ago and getting serious leak above oil filter...redoing the vc gasket. thanks for the post.

Caprock, Sorry about the wreck...How many miles on the engine...any front engine damage...I'm in Santa Fe with leaky 96 tlc...80 series...w/130 g's milage.... terry
