After a little advice from some great people on this board, my truck is running better than ever. It's amazing how different it feels after not doing much more than making sure things are how they should be (no vacuum leaks, lines routed correctly, gaskets are gasketing, etc...).
I need to play...
Dang, all my problems solved in one post. Thank you good sir! That's easy enough routing, and I should have about enough new vacuum hose floating around to set it up, assuming this old chunk of plastic passes the function test.
Been tinkering with my 60 a bit lately. After I rebuilt the carb, I went on a vacuum line spree and got rid of most everything old and did a partial desmog (components still there, just disabled).
What is this valve for? I'm holding off on dialing in the carb until I know if it needs to be...
No, still stuck here for the time being. Paperwork is moving like a snail over salt right now, but it is moving. Should be there some time in December since closing will fall so close to Thanksgiving.
On the plus side, the delay in paperwork is giving me more than enough time to fix what I...
To back up a little and keep things simple, what is the gap set on your plugs for the affected cylinders?
That stuff coming out the pipe may very well be unburnt fuel, condensation, coolant, or a mix of all three, coupled with blow by. It sounds like you're not getting ignition on 4 of the...
Not trying to hijack either, but I recently replaced the clutch on my '85 FJ60. I've always had to adjust clutches in the past to set the air gap to ensure the TO bearing doesn't ride on the clutch fingers. From what I've found on here and other sites, some time in '85 they did away with the...
Check the tension on your belts, I had something similar to this happen to me a while back. The lock nut and tensioner came off my alternator and let the belt slip a bit. Freeway driving would overheat, but lower RPM driving would cool very quickly. I put on a new lock nut and made sure the belt...
Oh, definitely. That new engine most likely has potential. One of the cool things about newer turbo diesel engines, if you want power, add more fuel and crank up the boost. Just make sure the rest of the engine can handle the stress and you're good!
I didn't see anything on pricing, and a...
If you're looking to become more capable at spinning wrenches, this is a pretty simple motor to work on. The smog system coupled with the mechanical ignition and carburetion controls is the most offensive part. It is pretty intimidating to open the hood and see all those vacuum lines. If you...
I looked into a diesel swap for a while and the 4BT was looking to be the best candidate as far as price went. The 6BT, while fine in a Ram 2500, seemed a little too tall and fat for the front end of the 60. I did find a few people online who hopped up the 4BT pretty well and claimed great...
Didn't think about that part for the CA guys and gals. How many other people have to run DEF in an FJ60? All the diesel swaps I've seen (online) were pre "smog" era engines.
Numbers wise, it looks pretty stout. A slight bump in HP and TQ, but probably has more potential with some standard upgrades.
I could see that being a cool setup if you could run different mapping for different occasions. A daily driving map for fuel economy and an off road map for low end...
Just when I thought it was save to go into the water...
I am back in the process of telling myself I DO NOT need to swap engines, and a lovingly rebuilt 2F is what I need. Eh, I made it a solid 7 days this time...
