Did you check the rear glass? The switches that tell the door is open are pretty self explanatory... they're the rubber things in the door jams. If you disconnect them (break the ground) the FJ will think the door is shut. You need a 10mm socket, and they just have a connector right behind them...

Yes its part of the bracket. Mine broke off the other end as yours.

Strangely enough I broke that same part off the first winter I had my FJ. It was really cold outside and it just snapped off when I opened the door. If you're still under the bumper to bumper you've got a shot. I got mine replaced under warranty at the time.
