Review Terrain Tamer Parabolic Leaf Spring Review

Having had terrain tamer parabolics on my Hilux for about 5 years now I have a couple of things worth noting. First is that the slipper pads on the ends of the leaf can fall out during high articulation as the pack actually separates. The solution I found was to use a very short screw to secure...

    Caster Correction

Yes RHD, the same thing seems to happen to the Tacoma but on the opposite side of course.

    Caster Correction

You do find one side pushed forward on modern ifs vehicles, the front tyres on my Hilux rub the mud flap on the drivers side but not the passenger side. However the difference must be in the control arm mounts as there is no variation of caster between sides.

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

I could but shipping from my side of the world would probably be uneconomical. Maybe someone like @Cruiser Cult could look into it if there is enough interest, I know they have a petcock for sale already although the thread is completely different to what my radiator has.

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Had the cooling system apart again so I took the opportunity to machine a lower radiator hose coupling out of stainless. Also went shopping and made up an extension for the radiator drain petcock.

Advise on how to remove rusty allen bolts

Make sure to clean out the head of the bolt to get full depth with the tool. Heating and cooling cycles, penetrating oil and patience. I find good cr-v tools resist rounding better than cr-mo. If you do round out a head I’ve had luck driving in a torx bit.

Dobinsons vs Ironman 4x4 2" springs

Have you tried contacting terrain tamer in Australia to see if they can ship directly to you? Cut out the middle man.

Dobinsons vs Ironman 4x4 2" springs

I have terrain tamer parabolics in my Hilux and they are worth every penny, it rides great whether there’s 500kg in the back or nothing. And they flex well. I’ve run Ironman leafs with zero issues and used dobinsons in the past too. But they ride like every other leaf spring. The quality of...

    2f Head Bolt Question

Excess anti-seize/oil on the threads could cause premature bottoming. Also insufficient lubrication or a rough surface under the head of the bolt can reduce clamp force.

    2f Head Bolt Question

Stretch will also show up as narrowing on the shank of the bolt, and can easily be checked with calipers.

    The Dorkle

I’ve decided trying to patch or spot weld the floor is a futile effort so I’m going to order a replacement panel, which will probably be a next year job. In the mean time I sealed it back up with some single stage paint and left the speed holes. Found a colour on the shelf that is a bloody close...

    The Dorkle

I’m still waiting on parts to get the Holley carb tuned so I pulled out the seats to have a little look at the condition of the floor. I’ve seen worse on here but it’s not ideal. Found the original gear knob fascia buried in all the dirt! The LH side floor is the worst, pin holes everywhere.

    The Dorkle

Well the hub walked itself off the pump shaft sending my brand new fan into my brand new radiator. At least it didn’t puncture it. So I machined out the pulley, machined a new barrel for it, gave it a 0.10mm interferrence fit to locate it, welded it, then put it back into the lathe for a final...

    The Dorkle

New gasket is cut, it’s a much better fit! Put the pulley up in the lathe and checked the run-out as I noticed it’s been cut and welded, it’s 0.60mm which isn’t ideal. I machined down some of the weld as it made it difficult to fit to the hub, but then realised someone had shortened it to fit...

    The Dorkle

A big pile of parts arrived today! I went to flush the cooling system on the weekend but saw how muddy it was and decided to go all in. Got all the old stuff out of the way. Cleaned up the gasket faces on the block and head. I always clean up the threaded holes with a tap, these were all full...
