I went through a long process trying to diagnose intermittent loss of power on hills. Felt like it was running on 5 cylinders, and it was. Only happened at higher RPMs. Ultimately it was a bad fuel injector, though having them bench tested did not find any of them to be bad. After eliminating...
'94 Land Cruiser with 226K. Started running hot--near red line with RavenTai temp gauge mod. Mostly on the freeway but also around town.
I had already modded the fan clutch, but that was 50K miles ago so I got a new blue fan clutch and modded it with 15K (I think) fluid. No change at all...
This just happened to me. In Bullfrog Utah with wife, 3yr old, and u-haul trailer full of gear. No way I could drive anywhere like that. I removed the caliper and used the bleed valve on the caliper to plug the line to both rear brakes where it leaves of the rear brake proportioning valve. It...
Awesome--that's the part. Thanks for the replies. I didn't notice anything different but surely don't like the idea of parts just falling off in the garage. On a happier note, this happened just a couple days ago (driving up Little Cottonwood Canyon for those noticing the gear selection):
I found this part sitting under the rear end of my '94 Land Cruiser in the garage. The top bit is rubber, the larger bottom part is solid steel. It's about 3" tall.
Anyone recognize it? Is it important?
Tank out and yes I have the same crack as everyone else. Amazing how much gas comes out of a such a small crack... Tank looks great after 220K miles (I gave it a bath on the outside--it was covered in Utah dust). The fuel pump sock looks so good I'm not even going to change it...
For those...
Sorry about the one-at-a-time questions--hopefully this is the last one.
All the instructions I've seen for dropping the tank say to remove the fuel pump first. I'm going to pick a used tank tomorrow. On the donor car can I cut the electrical/rubber lines and remove the tank with the fuel...
OK, I removed seats (which I had just reinstalled to tote baby and grandma around) and carpet and fuel pump cover. By careful inspection of what I can see it seems that the only likely culprit for my leak is the aforementioned fatigue crack.
However, I have a question: how come my tank...
And I too, join the leaky gas tank club ('94). Probably the same problem because it began spontaneously (city driving) and only leaks when full. Having only the one car available in Utah it will be a fun repair for me. I will try to source a used tank for a quick swap as the local dealer...
I own both a '92 and a '94. I will admit that I bought the '94 because the 3FE was too slow at altitude--I couldn't keep up with the city bus on hills in Utah (4000 - 8000 ft above sea level).
However, I also couldn't sell the '92. The lever operated HVAC system, bullet-proof engine, no...
Problem(s) solved - my final post on this matter:
Assuming I had a leaky injector despite recent cleaning owing to having the exact symptoms from this thread:
Fuel pressure gauge question
I removed the injectors (faster the second time) and had them re-tested. They all tested OK, however the...
I have not used Dyneema for winching applications, but it is used extensively in modern sailing applications. Some basic info on Dyneema (or Spectra--same thing): Breaking strength is roughly equivalent to the same size steel cable. 5/16" dyneema has a breaking strength around 15,000lbs (3/8"...
For those following along at home, my truck still has the same issue and I found this thread today: Fuel pressure gauge question The symptoms described by 'Tredwards' are _exactly_ the same as mine. So I will bite the bullet and remove the injectors and have them retested...
I confirmed there are no external leaks after reassembling the fuel system by following the FSM proceedure for jumping the fuel pump and increasing pressure by pinching the return fuel line.
Unfortunately it seems the only remaining culprits are: leaking injector, bad fuel pressure regulator...
Order new Toyota U-joints for the Driveline Service people to install. I had mine replaced with non-Toyota u-joints and they only lasted 15K miles (original lasted 185K miles). Now I have Toyota u-joints again (driveline shop installed them for free).
