Installed the VAIS iPod adapter. You get play list and song information but not artist (kind of a PIA). Allows for steering wheel controls, navigation through head unit (more functional for moving through play lists than songs), random and repeat functions. Does not leave the native iPod...
I personally like the old style 4WD emblem - to the point I put one on my FJ. I think it ties in nicely to the FJ heritage without renaming the vehicle (regardless of capabilities). Although it seems to work better with the blue/yellow FJs, it looks just fine on the Silver. As to drilling...
A couple of points:
If your parking brake doesn't hold the FJ, you should get it adjusted.
Unlike a lot of vehicles, 1st gear has the lowest ratio in the FJ (lower than reverse)
I decided to buy a “Saris Cycle On” bike carrier which attaches to the factory Toyota hitch. The receiver went in far enough to put the bolt through the second hole – this translates to “it’s in there good and solid”. Both bikes fit in without any interference from the spare tire – this was my...
I can help you with one of these issues - here's how to turn the seat belt buzzer off (cut and paste from another forum). Tried it with my FJ and it worked like a charm - not that I'm endorsing driving without a seat belt.
Seat belt chime
Turn the ignition switch on (without starting...

Fun to drive: Hard to explain but I just like being behind the wheel.
Quality: High quality – test drove a number of vehicles before buying the FJ; Toyota is just a cut above the rest.
Manual Transmission: Hard to find a manual these days; I believe the FJ is the only Toyota SUV that...
I'm picking up a hitch mounted, swing out rack directly from Toyota; about $480 ish CDN. The parts department is currently holding it for me ... now if only they could get the hitch in.
It's part of the alarm that was installed at the dealership; the button disables the interior proximity detector. Push the button and the security light starts flashing (beside the radio) - when you lock the door, the interior proximity sensory is disabled.
I agree that a majority of threads are informative and, for the most part, positive. Every now and again a thread like this starts as a legitimate question only to have a bunch of people start bashing ("Rav4", "such a poor vehicle devoid of any real connection to its roots", etc.)
With respect...
Although I have some understanding of the Landcruiser heritage (perhaps not as much as most on this board), I still don't get why people come to the FJ Cruiser board just to bash it, talk to why it doesn't "live up to the heritage" or explain why their vehicle is superior. To be honest, this is...
I guess it depends what "standard" is - even with a 7' opening the garage door hangs down a bit. You should really measure from your foor to the lowest point to check it out. Although my garage is fine (8' door), I won't be able to park in my regular downtown parking garage (6'4" restriction).
I test drove both and they are not even in the same league. Although they probably have very similar capabilities, there is a clear difference in the quality of the vehicles.
Everyone is different so I would suggest you test drive both - only you can decide what is right for you.
