I have the same vintage Tacoma. They are super simple and easy to work on, except for the oil filter is in a bad spot, and the skidplate is a pain to remove every time you need to get at something. Oh, and the headlights don't have bulbs, you have to change the whole headlamp (glass and all) if...

Ditto that. No issues--makes life easier. It should have been this way from the factory.

I have a single cab stock '97 Tacoma that goes anywhere my 80 will go and some places my 80 doesn't fit. Also gets 24mpg on the hwy and has a bed to carry junk in. Don't knock-o the Taco!

I'm waiting for Chevy to start selling their 2.8 Duramax diesel in a crate engine. Little less HP than a 1FZ, a lot more torque, and killer gas mileage. If it's in the price range of their other offerings, it may be tempting.
