I have a single cab stock '97 Tacoma that goes anywhere my 80 will go and some places my 80 doesn't fit. Also gets 24mpg on the hwy and has a bed to carry junk in. Don't knock-o the Taco!
I'm waiting for Chevy to start selling their 2.8 Duramax diesel in a crate engine. Little less HP than a 1FZ, a lot more torque, and killer gas mileage. If it's in the price range of their other offerings, it may be tempting.
