What a sad situation. I spoke with a party involved in the disposition of Wits End. There isn't enough for an onsite auction. All the assets will be transported to a Portland auction house in the next couple days. In one vehicle. The web domain and all associated IP might be part of the sale...
That nuthugger part should take <10 minutes to draw up a DXF cut file from scratch. Including walking outside and crawling under an FZJ80 with calipers.
One suggestion- Don't drill the threads out of the starter. Use a 10mm bolt through the threads from the front.
Toyota uses that same Denso starter in many other applications with M10 bolts.
I use the 100 series starter in VW TDI adapters with M8 bolts and it works fine, but that's just a 2.0l...
Some sad news today- I will not be able to bulk order anymore Albrights from this point forward. There are approximately 200 remaining in stock. When they're gone, they're gone. That's about a 2-3 month supply.
My F-350 Superduty and my 80 series both have the same 12 valve Cummins engines.
My Superduty regularly sits around 30k lbs gross.
I would feel uncomfortable towing more than 5k lbs with an 80. It just isn't designed for it.
I have not used those old style hoists. They certainly have an amazing look to them.
I have a HD cart in my shop that I use all the time. Someone long ago added a 1000lb WWII bomb hoist mounted as a swiveling jib on one end. The bomb hoists have an auto brake inside. They go up when you crank...
That makes perfect sense. I was curious as that's a big girl to have if you're not a fulltime machine shop and if you're a fulltime machine shop all the guys that know how to make a mill like that sing are dead and all the big parts that you could work on with a machine like that today have CNC...
Got me curious what you plan to use it for? I love old manual stuff, but it's real hard to find uses for it that don't require CNC or can be done 10 times faster with CNC. I use my big manual lathes all the time, but my 4" manual HBM with all the accessories is a 21 ton doorstop much of the...
My 13 y/o daughter recently informed me she is dead set on a Vanagon for her first car and wants my help to find one and 2.0 TDI swap it (she knows how to rope her old man into a project).
Reading this thread makes me feel like I might be a bad parent if I let her go down that path. lol
Cummins needs the grid heater below single digits. The 12 valve in my superduty starts instantaneously down to freezing. At 10 degrees it takes a full crank rotation and heavy throttle to start without a grid heater, but it still starts pretty good considering.
I realize the winch limits your options, but putting the IC there does create a lot of problems if you're in a hotter climate. The intercooler in front puts substantial heat into the radiator and ac condenser. To the point the cooling package is wholly ineffective nearing 100 degrees.
If you're...
