There has been a couple of recent messages about this project, so I thought I'd do a little update.
Overall, it is working great! The original black PETG print melted on a particularly hot sunny day. I reprinted in white PETG, and it has been going strong through some hot CA, AZ, and Mexican...
Love my KO2s, have 20K on mine, plenty of life left. We frequently do trails and forest roads, did some rough stuff in Death Valley. Amazed at some of the sharp stuff we have hit at speed and survived. Tough tires, and nice on road manners. I’ll get another set when it is time.
Mine is the 27oz. I think the diameter of most of their bottles is the same. My opening is 73.25mm. The right side "bycicle bottle" opening is 76.75mm. A nalgene is quite a bit bigger at 91.5mm, and it wouldn't leave much room for the other features on my inserts. It would have to more like my...
Thanks for the kind words folks. Several people have PM'd me asking whether I'd print and sell one to them. Let me go through some of the considerations, and if people are still interested, I'll consider it.
This thing would be expensive
I thought about selling this after I printed mine, but I...
Let me know what you think, or if you have improvement ideas! It has been waaaay too much work for a cupholder, but I'm really pleased with how it worked out. We went for a 3-day camping trip, and there weren't bottles and charging devices sloshing all over the place!
The charging cables wires can be pulled up and plugged into devices that need charging. I'm working on improving how smoothly and easily these pull out, and push back down.
Here it is loaded up.
Showing off the contour (asymmetrical! Thanks toyota!) which makes it blend into the stock...
I hate the stock cupholder. I'm sure you understand. Maybe the later ones are better.
I decided to design and print a modular 3d-printable replacement. I went through many iterations before I had a good fit. The new one completely replaces the stock one with a large bin, which can either be...
The amount of titanium is so small it doesn't add much incremental cost to the final product, and it is the best material for the job. I think the price YotaMD charges is fair. We are all used to super cheap stuff which is manufactured in vast numbers in china by people earning very low wages...
Yeah, I regret that tone. I was responding to him calling me "dude" and implying that I'd stolen from him, but I should have been de-escalating tone rather than escalating. Sorry about that.
This is delicate, because I don't want to critique his design, I think it is very good, and lots of his...
I don't recall saying it is drastically different, and if I did, that isn't a statement I'd stand by. And I also don't remember claiming it is anything but a personal DIY project. I think I said right up in my first couple of posts that the purpose was to teach myself CAD modeling and some...
I like this analogy. But as I see it, I noticed a cool looking trail called "clamshell with metal frame", knowing full well I wasn't blazing the trail, but I decided to see where it led. As we all know from over-landing, following other's trails is all part of the fun. I tried a bunch of...
I have no plans to sell them, but after a couple of more iterations of the design, I might post up some 3d files. If people are beating down my door for access to a a fob like mine I might reconsider and sell some, but honestly, at this point, I'd just go with the yotaMD product, which has an...
Chill out dude. I cited your product as design inspiration right at the top, but your design isn't quite the unique butterfly you think it is. Once you specify clamshell case with metal frame (which again, I credited to you), the rest of the design kind of flows from there. Make something as...
