Blackstone Oil Report Repository - Share Your 2UZ Reports

Great idea @suprarx7nut ! Here is my contribution. This sample is at 130k, I'm now nearly at 185k so a re-test is in order. Oil was 5 quarts Quaker State (Shell) Ultimate Durability 0W-20, plus 1.5 Qt Castrol Edge 5W-50. That's why Blackstone thought the viscosity was a little high. Of the 6720...

    Engine stalls after highway trave

I have a 2006 LC and the stalling has happened to me twice, with five years in between instances. Both times ambient temp over 104ºF. There are many threads and theories on this, but the one consistent conclusion: Change the fuel pump. I did the job about a month ago. It is not a difficult...

S.A.I. Filter Modification, in VVT engines. To prevent its failure! Alert Alert!

Just did this mod on my 2006 LC with 183k miles, the filter was completely GONE. Not a trace of it remained. Ozone kills open-cell foam. And Southern California has a lot of ozone. My LC also spent some time in New Mexico. Plenty of O3 there too. NOTE: When taking the top cover off the air...

100 Series VVTi Fuel Pump (‘06-‘07)

I think that makes sense. I’m still going to insulate my fuel lines in the engine compartment. Already bought the material, and its not that much labor time, and if nothing else it may help power slightly by keeping the fuel cooler so it extracts more heat from the charge air when injected. The...

100 Series VVTi Fuel Pump (‘06-‘07)

What do you think the root cause of the high temperature shutdowns on ‘06-‘07 LC/LX? I’m still having a hard time understanding how the truck passed hot temperature testing. I have been thinking lately that I can’t buy into the “heating of the gas tank by the exhaust” theory, because there is...

100 Series VVTi Fuel Pump (‘06-‘07)

Good to hear! When you say "Denso fuel pump (no longer made by Denso)" do you mean it is unavailable, or that Denso outsourced the manufacturing of it? The pump I installed (I got the part number from a post of yours) was identical in appearance to the one I removed.

100 Series VVTi Fuel Pump (‘06-‘07)

Thanks for the link! So its $445 for an OE kit with pump, plus shipping from UAE, and the de minimus (site insists on correcting my spelling), tariff exemption is gone, at least for the time being. I do remember calling a Toyota dealer in Denver after my first heat induced shut down (happened...

100 Series VVTi Fuel Pump (‘06-‘07)

Thanks! I assume that’s just the cage without the pump inside. What’s the 5-digit prefix for those part numbers?

100 Series VVTi Fuel Pump (‘06-‘07)

Hey Guys, Just swapped the fuel pump on my 2006 LandCruiser. And it had a bit of a surprise waiting. As you can see on these VVTi equipped LC’s, the fuel pump is held in a plastic cage, unlike the earlier models. The Denso pump I had ordered worked fine. In fact it looked identical to the old...

Stalling not just in High, Hot, & Heavy

Thanks for posting! I'm planning to do the fuel pump replacement and do as much of the fuel line insulation as I can next week. I ordered the DEI insulation for the lines. The metal lines are Dia. 8mm, and the rubber fuel line from the fuel filter to the fuel rail is Dia. 12mm. The questions I...

S.A.I. Filter Modification, in VVT engines. To prevent its failure! Alert Alert!

Just watched. Well done! As a former professional cinematographer, thank you for having a steady support for your camera! (I'm guessing iPhone).

S.A.I. Filter Modification, in VVT engines. To prevent its failure! Alert Alert!

I'm considering doing this mod on my 2006 LC, but I need to move fast as in 9 days I will loose access to a garage to work in. I tried searching for a DIY on removing the intake manifold and could not find one. Can anyone point to one?

Stalling not just in High, Hot, & Heavy

Resurrecting this thread... I want to tackle this problem on my LC 100 now. I have some time on my hands but my access to a garage space to work ends soon (April 18). An observation that may shed some light: On that same trip to AZ where I had the stalling, we needed to return to the Bay Area...

Looking for Paint Shop for Small Jobs

This was over 30 years ago, but from what I recall the paint was PGG Acrylic Urethane. And you need a supplied air respiratior (one with an air pump) to spray it because the hardener is an isocyanate (cyanide based). I would not be opposed to traveling out of state for the right deal. The Reno...
