Having a similar issue as post #54. Throttle shaft hinge on the primary side is leaky. Stock 2 bbl Aisan on my F145. Fuel bowl will empty completely after sitting for a few days.
If the primary throttle shaft looks wet, what’s the source of the leak or how can I break the wicking/siphon effect?
Is there anything more permanent than grease that could be smeared on the ends of the throttle shaft? Fuel-resistant permatex?
I’ve also got some post-shutdown leaking happening in the shaft-ends of my primary. I don’t see any excessive wear or damage but would like to plug up the leak that I...
Update: Misfire at idle seemed to be the result of weak spark. I changed ignition to pertronix (ignitor 2 + flamethrower coil) and my old F runs better than ever. Starts better, runs better and exhaust even smells like I’m getting a more complete burn.
Vacuum still isn’t as high as I’d like it...
I can start a new thread but this is where I suspect the leak is coming from. Not sure what this is called but it looks like it’s coming from the hinge on the throttle plate on the primary side. Haven’t tried non-ethanol gas yet, but I did blow carb cleaner + air into the idle screw hole and the...
Thanks for the reply! If you’ve got spares laying around I will definitely pay ya to mail me one, let me know and I can send you a PM.
Shoot, I’ll post an update that other idle misfire thread. I installed a Pertronix and that resolved the idle misfire. Could this idle solenoid gasket be...
Sorry if this has been asked before, my search didn’t yield any info. Does anyone know where to find a gasket for a pre-‘75 idle solenoid? Do I need to make my own?
Also, I haven’t seen much on these earlier solenoids. Are replacements NLA or does someone sell them?
Thanks!
I'm not going nuts just yet, but I don't rule it out.
I'll check dwell, get compression numbers and report back. I'll probably double check my valve adjustment before I do it.
The misfire is intermittent and not sustained, so it's doubtful that I'll be able to pull a plug wire to pinpoint the...
Maybe a tiny bit, but I’d say the vacuum is pretty steady. I haven’t tested compression yet. My next step is probably going to be that and getting a tach.
I noticed that my multimeter has a tach actually but the numbers were way off. I hooked the neg lead to battery negative and the positive...
Ok, booster seems solid then. I have a manifold vacuum port that’s normally capped at the base of my carb also (I think it went to a now-removed VSV) and the vac level is the same with the booster hooked up.
Gotcha, spark definitely looked consistent and blue. Just wasn’t the lightning storm I was expecting I guess.
I’ll see about adding a ground strap. Ideal location for this? Looks like I have a bolt hole below the front engine hook that might work.
I don’t disagree with you, I would like to have more vacuum but I’m not convinced there’s a big vacuum leak yet. I think you’d also be hard pressed to find original F engines out there routinely pulling 21-22 based on what I’ve read. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I fogged the manifold gaskets with...
