Talk me out of getting a project FJ40

I went to see it. It has been a redneck project already. It's both bad and not too bad. No diamond plate though! Body is not original, but a replacement. VIN is 256455, which I believe is something around 07.1977, but it has the tailgate, which appears to be earlier? The front bumper is a MAN...

Talk me out of getting a project FJ40

I have an opportunity to get a rust free, not running 1976 FJ40 for seemingly very good price. Photos I have are of a complete rat's nest of cables in the engine bay and inside the cabin, the dashboard hanging on wires, tons of cables hanging above the pedals. I had no idea there could be that...

    Cannot remove AHC Globe

I had a globe so stuck that the nut on it got rounded off. Drilled it's side with 2mm to let the gas pressure out, then enlarged to 6mm so that I can cram a rod in there and use as a lever - bent the rod, elongated the hole, the globe didn't bulge. Finally I got this wrench for big trucks oil...

Information needed for front end alignment

I have the same right pull. Both before I pulled the frame for galvanization and after. All new bushings throughout - rack, control arms, if there is a bushing in this truck, I have replaced it (60+) with OEM, apart from the unavailable steering rack bushings, where I went with Whitelines. It...

Swing away tire carrier with stock bumper.

I would brace it at least a bit somewhere in the middle. The tire is heavy and at the end of a long lever (my 33" on 18" was 50kg/110lb).

    CAD designs

I have always wanted to do that, but just getting the hang of SW to be able to model those relatively simple designs is taking me enough time. I was very concerned with the tire carrier - a 33" Toyo MT on a rim weighs about 50kg and the truck rear is bouncing up, down and around all the time...

CAD Model for skid plates for replacement of factory engine cover No. 2?

This thread popped up in the Similar threads box, while updating my CAD designs thread You can check there if the design works for you. I built the plates and then drove for maybe two weeks with them, before removing them and never putting them back on. I wheel hard and the stock front metal...

Drawer system They extend until just behind the second row seats and are about that high, minus the headrests. This allows for 800mm full extension sliders. There is a dimensionally accurate cutout of the floor. It extends for about 15cm more, before the seats. If made from aluminium sheets...

Tire carrier for the stock rear bumper Sized to fit a 33 MT tire. Locking mechanism not included. Solidworks 2021 SP5.1 files. Needs a little bit of cutting on the corner of the bumper. Sized to keep the tire at a safe distance from the rear door and as low profile, as possible. Keeps very...

AHC pump out? With code 1762

I am 99% sure that issues like this are due to clogged return valves in the pump. It has been documented over several other threads already. Opening and rebuilding usually gets it working for a while, but then it fails.

    Brake Upgrade

The braided brake lines make small, but definitely noticeable difference.

Axle bearings & bushing. When should these be replaced?

Febest is the worst when it comes to O-rings, seals and bushings. They use very cheap rubber that does not last at all. I have used them a couple of times when in the middle of fixing something I found out that I need a seal I don't have right now, as they have a local well stocked shop...

    AHC practicality questions

I almost got stuck, while crossing Patagonia lol and I am not removing it. The only expensive items that are likely to fail at some point are Height sensors, they are a wear item - the contact patches inside wear out - ~$230 each, there are 3 of them Spheres - also a wear item - the nitrogen...

What mods do you regret on your 100 series?

My full 80/20 rack is the only thing I really regret. Very expensive, a pain to assemble or disassemble, as it takes a whole lot (like 50) fasteners and brackets. It's super light though.
