Got it back in. Thanks again for the replies. It was stuck in reverse. Getting the spring button depressed and racking it back down out of reverse was tricky. Had to have the clutch in and use two pry bars like in the thread you shared. That was money.

any tips for a dummy that left it in gear?

bump. I really wish I had seen this before I removed my shifter in my 83' fj60.

no cap on this shifter…it’s an 83’ ? So my wife pushed the clutch in (with my permission) while I was fidgeting with it and I moved the right assembly forward, shifter slipped out and now nothing will move around. I’m digging a hole here. Boned. I better stop. Such a dummy, I’ve turned a one...

Ok y’all, I’m finally getting around to replacing the seat and I’m having a hard time getting the shifter back in. It’s not wanting to clear the two tabs. I feel like it slips into place but the shifter base sits at an angle and won’t go down far enough to clear the notches. Any tips? Tia

Mine got a lot better with time. When I first installed them I could barely move the window up and down. Now they work fine after breaking in.
