    Local help pls

I called McMahon too, and he was very friendly, but it must have been me, lol, because he referred me on to another shop. Trollhole would be great but quite a transport. I may be flying out to do my own wrenching. Bummer huh?

    Local help pls

This is interesting: I called and identified the vehicle, and was quickly told they "won't be taking this on." "It's a little too old for us." Alright, thank you.

Hi guys. I'm out in San Diego. My son is here with me. Our (his, lol) 80 series is in Swannanoa, neighboring Asheville. The rig needs to be moved. A friend of his went to move it yesterday and the (4 month old) battery was dead. Furthermore the engine quit immediately upon disconnecting jumper...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

I'm in the east county at 4,ooo' in the mountains. We're particularly hearty, 80 Series driving, types. The problem is when all the Flatlanders on the coast look up at the mountains and decide they need to play in the snow for the first time in their lives. This weekend it'll be serious gridlock...

    Help Pricing/Random Offer on 80-series?

Since you're resurrecting, I thought I'd chime in. Prices here in So Cal seem to have really jumped up. I think $15K might be a little low as a starting point. IMO, get an oil analysis ahead of time - any buyer who has done a few Googles is going to want to know about the HG and that's the best...

    Start-up Rattle Experiment

Good point, although I did experience some rattle before with other branded filters, like K&N.

    Start-up Rattle Experiment

Update: I'm impressed. The rig sat for well over a week, and it's been cold. Started it up this morning with a careful ear: no indication whatsoever of cam chain tensioner allowing any rattle/slack. So, try dino oil, as spec'd, and a small filter and let's hear your experience.

    Start-up Rattle Experiment

This is simply an FYI, not an oil thread or an argument. You may want to experiment if you're interested. I've been running Mobil 0W-40 for a number of years, and in various vehicles. On my '93 1FZ-FE I'd started noticing start-up rattle (cam chain) that lasted one or two seconds. I was also...

Observatuon about new spindles and bearing torque

That's good info, and similar to my experience. Mine felt nice, without much increased breakout force at 30lb/ft. They still turned fairly easily at 50 lb/ft, but I played with them a few turns and then backed torque off all the way, and then back up to 30 before securing it.

Observatuon about new spindles and bearing torque

Question: When you initially set it at 30lb/ft, what did it feel like as you turned the hubs?
