    stumbling idle once warm

I replaced the PCV/breather tubes when I replaced the valve cover gasket a few weeks ago. I also checked for a vacuum leak at the time and couldn't find one.

    stumbling idle once warm

Here is an update, I replaced both Oxygen sensors (both upstream and downstream) and it didn't seem to help at all. Today I replaced the EGR valve, spark plugs, cap, rotor, and wires and she runs like a top again :) I suspect it was the plugs, but figured it was all good to do.

I should probably also mention that I have a check engine for EGR....but have for years without the stumbling I have now.

    stumbling idle once warm

Sorry, added that detail. I figured since I was adding to the 80 series forum, that would be assumed, but I guess knowing the year and market still matters

    stumbling idle once warm

Forgive the long story, but it might help isolate the issue. My family and i went camping a few weeks ago and on the way home the 1997 Land Cruiser 80 series (US 1FZ-fE) started running rough and the check engine light was flashing. I pulled over and pulled the spark plugs to see if I could...

    Better towing power/economy upgrade options

Thanks all for your input. Dave 2000 was right in that I just want a modest power/mileage increase (50hp 5mpg) to let me tow with without losing any offroad capability. I would love more power, but don't need it for a 2,000 trailer. I don't have the skills or patience to do a swap myself as...

    Better towing power/economy upgrade options

@Dave 2000 The thing I don't understand about the diesel is how it can pull any better up I than the gas engine. Given that the gas engine makes more horsepower If I can get close to the peak horsepower RPM, I should be able to go up the hill faster than the diesel (both stock). correct. The...

    Better towing power/economy upgrade options

Getting a tow vehicle isn't a solution for me. I do more overlanding/camping than rock-crawling. I often go places where I need the 35s and lockers pulling the trailer. That is why I got a small trailer with 33s. The goal of the trailer is mostly to cut down on preparation/setup/takedown time...

    Better towing power/economy upgrade options

thanks, I think I need to try letting the motor spin a little more. I assumed that being a huge torquey motor it would like low revs and was purposely keeping the pedal just above the kick-down (mostly in an attempt to save gas, and because I didn't expect much better power)

I haven't seen any turbo setups for the engine. Are there any turbo packages that don't require a bunch of fabrication, or shops that do turbo setups?

Stock gears. Yeah, 20k is hard to justify to go a little faster or gain 5 mpg. Leaning toward living with the existing engine for now and if it dies look at upgrading either the car or the engine I still don't understand why the Diesels are so sought after as an upgrade when the numbers seem...

    Better towing power/economy upgrade options

has not been re-geared.....but that would probably hurt mileage right? I have considered a 100/200 series, but then I have to lift again, get lockers, etc. and I lose some of the simplicity of the 80 series. I also think the 80 looks better. How deep of pockets would I need for a engine...

    Better towing power/economy upgrade options

I recently bought a offroad teardrop that weighs about 2,000 pounds and is fairly tall on 33s (see image). towing it back to St. George, UT from Salt Lake I got between 8.5 and 10.5 mpg and had to slow down to about 50-55 on some hills (80 mph speed limit) It is a 1997 80 series with 35"...
