Is the paint cracking or is it a scratch or chip? The better touch-up pens include paint, clear coat, and have an abrasive tip on one end that is used like a pencil eraser to smooth out the defect and remove any oxidation. If it's a scratch or chip that's the route I would go.
Did the dealership suggest the engine was not maintained properly or take a guess at any cause, or did they just shrug and act like these things can happen?
I get Toyota owes nothing outside the warranty period but $1k in good will on a $17k bill to fix a $70k truck famous for reliability...
It would be interesting to know more about the history and use of the vehicle: prior maintenance, current condition, detailed findings from the diagnosis and thoughts on what caused failure, and Toyota's reason(s) for zero good will on a premium product with lowish mileage.
The current LX has all speed cruise but even the LC never got it. I was under the impression brake hold and all speed cruise were typically tied into the electronic parking brake but maybe it's all ABS.
