Thanks!!
I was told it was treated like a Factory warranty replacement- so everything was replaced new except for the 1 head that was not damaged. I also had them replace ALL the valve springs (just to be safe!) even in the undamaged head.
Update! I decided to hand write and mail a number of letters to Toyota Corporate Executives … with no actual hope of hearing back.
However, Great news! I received a call within a week and their Exec team and Regional worked out an arrangement where I ended up paying for 1/3 of basically a new...
The $18k includes assembling a new engine with all new parts (except my 1 head that is still good, that they will reuse) and 60 hours of labor to do it. Doesn't include the credit.
I just can't wrap my head around spending that much... and only a 1 year warranty... but it would be a new...

Yeah, I am pretty disappointed in the...
I have 1st Owner records showing serviced every 5k miles at a Dealership up to 30k miles, then serviced at local mechanics. I bought with 49k miles.
Excellent condition- super clean- people think it's new.
Spring valve on cylinder 5 broke in half, got wedged inside the cylinder, seized engine...
From my recent experience dealing with Toyota Corporate- I would recommend getting their powertrain warranty (and reading in detail if they have any disclosures to your maintenance and modifications questions). I know most of us believe these should run forever ... but this is unfortunate proof...
Thanks for the input. I'd love to fix her and keep her if it was $10k- agree!
Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding ANY used engines (or they have high mileage ). If anyone has recommendations on reputable places to get one, I'd love the info :)
