Hi guys,
I have decided to possibly part with my 80. As some of you know I went through it doing all the PM and normal mods. I really love it, it's an amazing vehicle but no longer is needed. It has been sitting for a few months, so I'm not in dire need to sell, as I'd really like for it to...
I have always used the diy spacer version on vehicles and have never had an issue with it before. Sometimes you have to adjust it a bit in/out to get it just right, but it's never outright not worked for me before.
I'll have updated pics tomorrow. I did a bit of work with a wire wheel cup (a 1" one) to get into tight places and see how pitted some areas were. I was actually surprised how little pitting there was, at least on the spindle and knuckle. When it's all bare tomorrow, I'll know for sure.
Well, my 80 was worse than that when I started working on her. It took several cans of engine degreaser and a power washer to clean it up. I didn't have differential fluid, I had yogurt from grease mixing in with fluid, which is why I tore it apart in the first place
Glass beads. I don't actually use sand in my blaster, ever. I use steel slag, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and glass beads depending on what I'm doing.
Yes, call welding shops. Call industrial supply houses. Call crane and rigging shops. I buy mine locally at a welding, fabrication, trailer parts, and tool shop. Found them by accident many years ago, and they've taken more money than some of my ex girlfriends..
UWDave,
I saw you said you didn't have access to copper in your area. Having a copper backing bar makes sheet metal welding EASY. All of your welds will look like they were professionally done by a tig welder with decades under his belt if you use one. Hell, I have one in particular that's...
The knuckle actually doesn't look that bad. I didn't even brush off the items in those pictures. I'm about to go at them with a small wire cup in a low speed drill to knock off most of the dirt, loose rust, leaves, and crap. Bet they're going to look great in comparison afterwards!
These are what I use for plug disassembly. I have one more but I can't seem to find it, it may be in my electronics box..
There are very few connectors I can't do with what's pictured. Any that give me 'extra' trouble usually are damaged in some way, and I use the Delphi prison shank for those.
Use the starter method. I literally broke 2 1/2" breaker bars, said screw this, got my 3/4" t-bar, and realized I didn't have the right sized socket for the bolt in 3/4". So, I had to use a 3/4->1/2" adapter, and use my 1/2" impact socket. I broke the adapter. So I went and bought another one...
The Bubba Rope and the ARB are in completely different leagues. Ones designed for small to medium offroad vehicles, the other one is industrial quality that's used by firefighters, military, professional wreckers / recovery, etc.
No need for the very best if you're going to use it once a...
Hilifts are great tools, if you know what you're doing. They are also DANGEROUS beyond belief, and even if you do everything properly, things can still go wrong. But, as they were intended - an emergency recovery jack and tool, they are amazing. Especially the XTreme version (I have the 60" and...
Good luck and stay safe! I recommend reading lots of forums about offroad recovery, do's and don'ts, etc. There are a million ways to get hurt or get dead while recovering vehicles. It's all fun and games until a 5 pound shackle gets slingshotted with 20,000 pounds of force into the back of...
