94 delayed cranking. Starter, ignition switch, or other?

The starting sequence on the 24 volt diesel is a bit more complicated. The operation of the starter has a delay relay in the system to allow time for the 12/24 volt changeover relay to operate fully so that the starter is not trying to draw current before the 24 volt connectors are fully...

    1HDT - Coolant Operating Temps/Lower Radiator hose

An old thread but still being read it seems. The Thermostat is housed in the engine block and reads the temperature of the water circulating in the block. When the water in the block heats up past the opening temperature it lets a bit of water in from the lower hose. Normally this is cold as...

HZJ80R high pressure power steering hose replacement options?

Why make it complicated. Just replace the whole line with flexible hose. There is plenty of room for a smooth pipe run and less joints to go wrong. Any hydraulic repair shop or mobile plant repair specialist will do the job in minutes.

    Roof rack light configuration

Actually the important bit is to get the drivers side light closer to the outside edge of the vehicle than the driver's eyes so that it illuminates all that is in the field of vision. It doesn't need to be much further out to eliminate the disconcerting blacked out bits.

    Roof rack light configuration

Spot on, so to speak! Having the lights mounted as low as possible under the rack helps too. Its easiest with rectangular LEDs, or a light bar.

    Roof rack light configuration

The great advantage of roof lights off road is that they illuminate the track without leaving pools of blackness in the hollows. Ideally they need to be set far enough back that the bonnet (or hood!) is in the shade as even an illuminated matt black surface is a bit distracting; if you can't see...

    BFG KM3 recommended tire pressure

It's really not so complicated. The weight on the tire is spread over the number of square inches of tire touching the road so 10 inch wide tire witha contact patch 5 inches long at 40 psi will hold up 2000lbs. Higher pressure shortens the contract patch. Lower pressure lengthens it.

    STARTER RELAY LOCATION HELP!!

My 1994 definately has a starter relay. My understanding is that these were discontinued in 1996 when the wiring was revised. My starter solenoid is in the left fender just behind the ABS and in front of the firewall accessed from under the hood.

    Electrical issue

My guess wood be that whoever fitted the radio joined the (ignition) switched feed and the permanent unswitched feed together at the radio. This would back feed all the ignition circuits and blow the unswitched feed as soon as any high amp ignition controlled accessory was switched on. While the...

    Fusible links

Mmmmm. Not sure that I understand. Are you suggesting this as a replacement for all three fusible links or as another circuit breaker between the battery and the OEM fusible links? John

    Fusible links

Hi Dave, Can you recall what sizes of Mega fuses you used; and which fusible link each replaced? Cheers, John

Yes. I'll add stopping the air coming through the grill escaping without being heated up to the list of jobs. Moving the oil coolers is simple enough. Finding somewhere to move them to that isn't in front of the radiator or exposed to is road damage is not so simple. Any ideas? J

Yes I can see a progression of jobs before me, all of which are going to be difficult to test in winter! First I think is to get the ac working as well as possible so that all the things that generate heat to be dissipated by the airflow are producing all they are likely to produce and then...

Yes, undoubtedly I have a leaking AC system, all I have to do is find it and fix it! So far its defeated 3 professionals so I'm going with the full dismantle, inspect, rebuild routine. I've done the temperature gauge modification; it runs in normal circumstances at the half way point on the...

Yes! Trouble is I did all that, and had a new condenser fitted before I set off and it ceased to work a month later. Went through the whole process again in Bulgaria, including refurbishing the pump and it worked for two weeks. A further attempt in Azerbaijan got it to work for a couple of...
