    My 1975 2F Holley Sniper Install….

When I first installed the Sniper/HyperSpark I had difficulty getting IAC set correctly. After machining all the intact surfaces flat...including the phenolic spacer, it was much easier to tune. I suspect small intake leaks are the cause of some of these difficulties.

    33x9.50 on stock 40?

I'm running those 33x9.5 Klevers on (what I think is) a stock suspension - 75 FJ40. Fronts are fine but rears rub when I go over a bump. I added 1" aluminum spacers underneath my bump stops as a temporary fix but will need to add a lift. The bump stop spacers are not ideal but I have not had...

    Terrain Tamer parabolics installed

I believe the springs I currently have are 0" lift (but I could be wrong). 33x9.5's (Kenda) fit the front without rubbing. The rear rubbed over large bumps so I added a 1" extension to the bump stops. No rubbing since that extension but only on-road testing. The OME seller I spoke with...

    Terrain Tamer parabolics installed

Is there a consensus on Terrain Tamer vs. OME Dakar for a ~2.5" lift? Which shocks (RS-9000XL -rs99116 and -rs99113 seem to match and have easy adjustability)? Are the Terrain Tamer anti-inversion shackles the best match for them? Are they greasable? Or which shackle would the group...

    Holley Sniper wont idle

Sounds like a fuel issue with yours, but the most common problem I have heard of with Sniper installs are vacuum leaks. Vacuum leak messes with the MAP sensor which causes incorrect mixture. In particular, the intake manifold seal to the engine and the phenolic spacer block between Sniper and...

Holley Sniper install - open up 2bbl phenolic spacer?

I did not open up my spacer and I am happy with the performance on my Sniper install. Perhaps it would be better if I had opened it up, but better is often the enemy of good enough. After 48 years of use, my spacer was slightly warped, so I did use a fly cutter on both surfaces of the spacer...

    2F Camshaft

When my 2F was rebuilt, the engine shop "reconditioned" the camshaft by adding metal and regrinding. I'm not sure what process was used to add metal - perhaps welding or plasma spray. I know he sent the camshaft out for that but don't know where. Or maybe he was just pulling my leg...

Holley Sniper EFI : Tips / Tricks / Modifications

It's just the terminals on the top of the Hyperspark distributor are male (not sure the proper term) and the original Toyota distributor had the other kind. So, you would likely need to get a new set of end connections to crimp on. See photo below of Hyperspark distributor. Sorry for not...

Holley Sniper EFI : Tips / Tricks / Modifications

Wiring was pretty straightforward. Just follow the instructions that came with the Sniper. (Ground, +12V switched, timing wire from Sniper - wiring to coil is a plug-in connector.) The Sniper will take over control of the timing. Minor fabrication of mounts needed to hold the Hyperspark box...

Holley Sniper EFI : Tips / Tricks / Modifications

I found the addition of the Holley Hyperspark to the Sniper to be useful. The ability to adjust spark advance as part of the fuel mapping process has made for a motor that runs as smoothly as my 2019 Toyota. Starts immediately whether it is 20F outside or heat soaked on a 100F day. See the...

    '74 FJ 40 Alternator Replacement

A bit more work, but faced with a similar question, I went with path of the GM alternator run directly to battery (to bypass amp gauge). I use a voltmeter to monitor the battery state of charge and alternator state of health. This does require a small amount of fabrication for a new bracket, a...

    Fj40 market

I've had both a SBC and a 2F. SBC was always a challenge with heat. Sometimes it was vapor lock, sometimes coolant temp, sometimes the floor just got really hot over top of the exhausts. It had a modern Edelbrock carb on it and ran well in cooler weather. Higher rev limit than a 2F so easier...

    Radiator Fluid

See The Different Colors of Coolant and their significance - https://fuelandfriction.com/weekend-warrior/the-different-colors-of-coolant/ Pre-1990, I'd use the classic green ethylene glycol / inorganic acid coolant.

Looking for Recommendations on Good Solid Engine Hoist

For my '75 w/2F and 4 speed, I used a HF cherry picker to remove the motor, transmission, and transfer case together as a unit. To re-install it, I found it easier to install the engine first. Then place the transmission and transfer case underneath the car and use that same cherry picker to...
