Steering Stabilizer. Which one is King ?

Haha, I also forget! I wanna say in (clockwise) is tighter? IIRC, it should be immediately obvious thru experimentation.

The "Official" 1HZ/1HD-T/1HD-FT Airbox/Intake Mod Thread

I've had various causes of whistle that seemed "grossly more than normally expected". I don't have an intuitive feel for that as this is the only diesel I've ever owned, but when it's consistently annoying at a wide range of boost that seems off. First: Turbo inlet pipe had a giant hidden...

Builds Airbagged 80 series on 42 inches. Low cost Russian build thread

Good to know, thanks for the update on those LTOs!! Lithium can safely discharge to 90% whereas AGM can only do 50% without damage (or up to 70% for 400 cycles if you go Odyssey AGM route).....so FUNCTIONALLY you get about twice as much power from the same sized battery. And you get 10X-100X+...

Builds Airbagged 80 series on 42 inches. Low cost Russian build thread

Oh yeah, an LTO update! So they worked great for you all winter? No charging or starting or other weird problems--same as normal lead acid in terms of performance?

    First Switch Controller

I'm sort of leaning towards a Neutrino product, made in USA: https://www.neutrinoblackbox.com/compare-products No physical switches, but if you have a modern head unit you can just use the app on that or your phone to control everything. Fully programmable for temp/speed/time of day. Quite...

    Ferrules! Wagos!

Wow, that's AWESOME thanks for the tip on these!!! Also Tesota your thorough followup on this is much appreciated. Regarding the testing, did the SPLICING connectors (such as 221 series) also pass these tests? Just curious, although the anecdotal evidence presented in this thread leads me to...

What gives with the HDJ81 JDM scaremongering?

I was almost to that point with my HDJ, but mine was due to Death Wobble from a poorly implemented lift. I had to upgrade most of structural suspension components and drivelines, even with that DW still happened until I switched to Nitto tires. Fortunately now I'm two years in with no DW, so...

    Ferrules! Wagos!

Nice call, I do see that the CAGE CLAMP series you used appears to have IEC 60068-2-6 testing for vibration. Weird it's not referenced explicitly on the spec sheet though?!? Importantly, I can't see where any of their SPLICING connectors (the ones we'd use at home) are tested to this standard...

    Ferrules! Wagos!

Have you put those Wago connections under strain on a vibration table? I love Wago's but wouldn't consider them a permanent option for high-current connections on a highly vibrating chassis. I can't find any official info about their use in automotive or aviation applications, but it does seem...

    1hdt timing belt change

IIRC, the FSM tells you to remove that gear and then, after a series of other steps, tells you to put it back on again. There's no apparent reason to remove the gear (unless you're going deeper into the engine) so I didn't. They also don't do it in this video of the job, which is also helpful...

What gives with the HDJ81 JDM scaremongering?

That is incredibly well said, emphasis on serious. On average I have paid $481/month over 63 months of ownership to have the privilege of spending thousands of hours working on this vehicle. But it's probably worth what I've invested, so there's that. Note that includes many upgrades so it's...

Looking for a high capacity radiator for my 91 HDJ81.

You still need to set the temp on the clutch even if brand new and correct for an HDJ. Been there, done that--even from Cruiser Outfitters to boot. I also upgraded to a higher CST fluid, I think I bought a 10k/25k/50k and mixed the 25k and 50k to make a 30Kcst....or something like that, super...

Looking for a high capacity radiator for my 91 HDJ81.

I have gone the eBay route, see my posts here on what I ordered and, much more importantly, here on what was wrong and therefore what to look for/know prior to purchase on these radiators. I was specifically looking for the auto tranny cooler built in because I live in a cold climate so that...
