I did the same thing with my TRD Pro, using a synthetic line. I can tell no difference in suspension feel with the slight extra weight, and there's no sag in almost 6k miles since the installation. -H-

The mount for the headrest prongs is approx. 5 14/16" center to center...measure your 80's headrest and if it's that...then yes. It's designed for a 5th generation 4Runner, but I doubt Toyota changes the headrest mounts much between models.... -H-
