    End-of-Days Trailer Build

ntsqd, I only went with the 4-link cause that's what i've built before on my crawlers. I really was considering a 3-link but I just went with what I've done before.....Maybe the next one i'll 3-link :) I totally agree with what you're saying on the frame rails/strength thing. I only made...

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

Here's a couple more screen shots of the suspension design. I just realized I have one of the link brackets put together wrong.....at least it is only on the computer

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

Thanks for all the compliments guys. Sorry I haven't updated much recently. I've been swamped with jobs that aren't as fun, but I have to pay the bills somehow. I finally have a decent design of the suspension I have planned. I scrapped the ITS suspension and went with a 4 link setup as...

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

Once I got the tongue finished, I started mocking up the suspension. The air-springs even look cool just sitting there so i'm super excited to build it. I'm going to design the suspension in solidworks because it will just be too much of a pain to design as I build it. I've just started...

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

I finally got some more work done on the trailer frame. I'm sort of designing a lot of this as I go which I hate doing because I feel like it will eventually bite me but I designed/built the tongue this weekend. I'm going to make some sort of swivel hitch and wanted that to be 2.5" square. I...

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

@SAS, I originally had planned on putting the water tank on the outside of the main box. I had too many different ideas and didn't like any of them so I took the easy way out and just put it inside the box. The tank will be easily removable so if I need some extra space I can pull it out. I...

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

Here is how the box sits now. I haven't riveted the latches on yet. I might wait until I powder coat the box and then put them on. I have no idea how much the box weighs right now but it is effin heavy! Until it gets mounted on the frame its a nice lunch table for the shop.

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

Part of the reason for building the trailer is to store survival equipment when not camping. I live in the Bay Area, and I don't want to be screwed when the "Big One" hits so I wanted to be able to store a lot of water. I found a tank that hold 42 gallons and fits nearly perfectly inside the...

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

I made some brackets to mount the strut out of 1/8" plate. Since I wasn't exactly sure of the location I wanted I made the mounting brackets with 3 holes so that I could adjust it if needed. The 100# struts are plenty to lift the lid.

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

I got the hinge, Latches and handle put on the box. The hinge and latches I bought from Mcmaster, but I couldn't find a handle that I liked so I wasted some time making my own.

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

Here's Pretty much how it sits now. I've got the frame welded out. I added another cross brace right at the angled miter that is not in the pictures though. I've been working on designing the trailing arms. I'm going to make them from 1.75"x.25 wall DOM, and use 5/8" Heim Joints on the...

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

I started putting the brackets for the trailing arms on the frame rails. Feel free to call me out for fully welding everything before all the pieces are fitted up.....I sort of got ahead of myself. There will be a second bracket on each side mounted to the cross brace

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

Here are some of the end caps I put on the back of the trailer, and the doubler plate all tacked up.

    End-of-Days Trailer Build

Since I hate welding the outside of mitered corners I decided that I would just put bend a doubler plate and put it over the outside corner. The doubler is 1/8" thick. For some reason I thought it would be cool to put some circles in the middle of the plate and run a bead around inside a 1.25"...
