Great question! I disposed of the gasket it came with and went all FIPG. Whether or not that’s the right approach I don’t know. It’s held up thus far!
I think the important think to note with the FIPG is to keep a continuous bead.
I'm looking for some help addressing some corrosion on my exhaust flange where the muffler meets the catalytic convertor y pipe.
I am changing out the muffler as I inadvertently damaged it.
Things I've tried:
wire wheel brush - doesn't do anything
Screwdriver - does chip the corrosion away...
No worries at all! I’m in the same boat except my list of thing to do has gotten so large I forget what’s on it… repair rear windshield washer line, suspension, front driveline, slow windows, the list goes on.
And I love driving the car so if I’m working on it that’s inhibiting!
Thank you all for you answers!
I found out that what I’m after is an additional seal from trail tailor. I guess it’s not OEM, but an aftermarket weatherstrip that seals better - used to reduce wind noise and leaks.
Is there a part number for this weather strip that mates up to the normal door seal?
I need to replace mine on both sides but haven’t been able to locate a part number on it nor do I see it listed aim any of the usual parts sites.
Thanks in advance!
Well... upon removal, and I did it carefully, my gasket did not hold up... This is a new, sealed bag AISIN pump.
Does anyone know if this is salvageable?
The soonest I can get a new gasket like this is Monday. What a pain!
Interesting! I wonder if that’s what cityracer meant when he said put fipg on both sides of the gasket.
Thanks for the heads up. Will seal that!
My does have a gasket between backing plate and bump. Did yours?
