I bypassed the amp. If you do that, you will need to run speaker wire from the radio to the old amp location.
I also wired in a new sub and stuck ot in the hole where the old sub was.
You gent are fantastic!! The conversation went from the heat transfer properties and insulating capabilities of the hood liner to, "Just burn it!". All on the name of science.
Feels like a mythbuster episode.
So, how did it burn?
Thanks @tbisaacs and @TeCKis300. I was looking and have not found a Denso voltage regular yet. The regulator and brushes are the two i'm most interested in.
You're right about the time to replace though. It's not like my 80s where it's a half hour job. Perhaps a new Toyota/Denso alternator...
My alternator is putting out about 13.4 V and I'm concerned it's may fail. I should replace it or rebuild it. I have a 2011 LX570 and I believe the part number for a new alternator is 27060-38050.
I would rather rebuild it if I can find parts, specifically the brushes and voltage regulator...
Finally got around to machining the hinges for @dcarpenter . Made from aluminum with Stainless steel shoulder bolts and oil impregnated bronze bushings.
@Pighead sent me a couple on the post I started in the FJ40/55 page. (Thank you!)
If it's easy, I take a couple more at different angles. Maybe with the seatback up and the seat out of the way.
I originally posted this on the FJ40/55 page and was encouraged to try hear as well.
Looking for all you smart folks to help me understand more about this hinge and get some pictures of the hinge in place. In it's natural environment so to speak.
A friend asked for me to make a replacement so...

A friend asked for me to make a replacement so I thought about machining it out of aluminum and adding a stainless steel shoulder...
