Here is a link to a photo album with all the pics I have of the vehicle. The rust on the drivers floor has a soft spot about the size of a quarter when probed. I believe this damage was caused by an defective catalytic converter/exhaust leak as it has a new c/c and the rest of the floor looks...

For Sale - 1980 FJ40 w/factory P/S, A/C. I bought this cruiser last June in hopes of working on it with my son, but we have too many other irons in the fire so I am selling it. It is great unrestored condition. One of the previous owners had done a fair amount of work to the rig, rebuilt engine...

OK Guys here is an update. I tried the clutch - no change, disconnected belts - no change, tried the old broom handle trick and it sounds like it is some where is the valve cover. Any more ideas? Stu :confused:

Good question. The guy I bought it from said the fella he bought it from had rebuilt it about 7K before, so now it should have about 10K on it. Not sure of time frame. I appreciate the tip on the oil squirter, I am going to eliminate all external doubts first and then take the timing cover off...

Sorry, I should have noted it is most noticable sitting still. It definatley seems to be coming from somewhere in the engine. Thanks, Stu

Great Site!! Well I just bought my first FJ40, what a blast! I was wondering about a whine cound coming from the engine though. It is RPM dependent and almost sounds like the old Pete Jackson timing gear drives. My FJ is an 80 with a rebuilt 2F. Do these engines have alot of timing gear noise...
