It has been a crazy winter and I finally took Louie out of the garage for errands around town. I did manage one winter project. It is the little things. Thanks @Coolerman. The existing connector basically fell apart when I took the pins out.
Here is an option for a door handle bushing/grommet if you have access to a 3D printer.

Here are the results when using the grommets...
I didn't have an old one to measure. I picked 4 mm to seal and cushion. The 1 mm was too thin for that and the next size up seemed too thick.
Louie was is pavement princess so I'm not really worried about the seal, It will be a bad day if the light is under water.
This is what I used this to make temporary gasket. I bought a small piece from a local craft store.
I'm planning to try and 3D print this fall when work slows down.
Likely possible to print with flexible filament however it is hard to get good results. A print print file (STL file) of the part needs be created. A original part would be required to get all the dimensions to create the file.
I used an oscillating tool vs. a sawzall. It has less movement and was easier to control than my sawzall. I think I used two blades for the 4 mounts.

Was in the local reuse store and thought I would get some extra tools for Louie. I guess I will have to keep looking.. it seems like they are out of spare 10mm sockets ;)
Based on the VIN, I'm guessing your truck was manufactured in April/May of 1972 based on the table below which makes a 1972. I suspect there is a hole in the dash where the OEM ignition switch should be located underneath the rubber mat.
This is dash layout for a '72
I love see all the crazy weather/snow pictures and FJ40s playing in the snow. I will say living north of the 49th, Louie remains in storage. I will post a picture of my first drive when the snow is all gone :).
Sorry can't help how to remove the lock barrel however based on my '73, there are a number of differences in the dash pictures (Read lots of "PO presents")
Key should be on the right hand side of the column like in Matt's pictures. I'm not sure exactly when the change of location occurred in...
There is a gap between the bracket and floor board. I'm thinking there needs to be some type of spacer. I might have to investigate in the new year and come up with a solution.
Nothing shown on the microfiche
I was lucky in terms of all the main ones coming out with no major problems. I did have issues with the rear sill mounts and had to cut them with an oscillating saw to cut the bolts. I loosened all the mounts and then replaced them on each side one at a time. I used a bottle jack and long 2x4...
