Great point. Splines are good. Reset the bearing pre-load about 20 months ago, so there's no slop.

I'm seeing two different oil seals associated with the CV's. Are the rh/lh different?

I'm using the mcmaster carr smooth edge/narrow clamps to address leaks until I reboot or replace. You can see one on the small end of the boot that i put on 4 years ago. Just put one on the large end of my leaking boot last night.

Ooh. So the kit comes with 2 boots for $58... And is there 1 tube of grease or two? My assumption is that there is enough grease for both boots in the kit... Usually partsouq has the best prices including shipping, but their cv's are about $500 and the boot kits are $110. I'm not sure why...

Ok. Maybe I'm being dense but toyota parts deal has the boot kit for $58. It comes with one boot and the site says that two are required. Partsouq, has a kit with 2 boots but it's about $110... Let me know if I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time... Anyway I took off the factory boot...

Thanks for the response and the links. The Boot kit only has 1 Boot, so 2 kits are needed per cv, that's why I'm not sure if a new oem axle for $370 is a decent tradeoff.

About 4 years ago my cv's had slight leaks coming from the small end of the inner boot. Per this forum I bought the smooth edge mcmaster carr clamps (small and large) installed the small one's on the leaky ends and problem solved. Today I noticed the inner passenger side boot was slinging a...

4.7L 2UZ-FE Valve Cover Gasket Job

I think it's a combination of factors including the "throughbolt" ends are exposed and they are directly over the manifolds (per @OTRAMM) . I also understand that the steel bolt can fuse with the aluminum head via a chemical process - though im not a chemist/metalurgist. Anyway great video...

4.7L 2UZ-FE Valve Cover Gasket Job

Great video but.... Depending on where your hundy lived it's life (read northeast) will play a big part as to whether the valve cover bolts come out easily or they break. There is a lot of "broken valve cover bolt(s)" content on this forum including from me. There is also OTRAMM video where...

Differential oil change on my 01.

Going to change the oil in the front and rear diff's of my 2001 LC. Last time I used mobile 1 full synthetic 75/90 in the front, center, and rear as it was a readily available product on store shelves. FSM lists sae 90 gl5 in front and rear and 75/90 in the center. I've also heard that you...

my living nightmare. valve cover gasket replacement turns into engine out job

I really don't know. I can say that before I started the job I watched a lot of videos showing the replacement of the valve cover gasket on the 2uzfe, mostly all were tundras/sequoias and all were "easy" 3 - 5 hours - so I was naive. It wasn't until I broke the first bolt on the passenger...

my living nightmare. valve cover gasket replacement turns into engine out job

I did my valve covers over Aug and Sept. Had an ever so slight passenger side oil leak. This thread was inspiring (as was the Rob Schnieder "you can do it!" Meme) as I broke 1 bolt on the passenger and which despite every stud removal technique (except welding a nut). Literally spent a week...
