i had a similar problem., when i changed the fuel hoses, i didn't blew air before hooking.....guess what.. it force me to do something i had long waited for....carb kit....thanks to this forum i was able to do a carb job and learn from my mistakes. good luck to you

had the same problem on my 1980 fj40.,the wandering was bad., has Jim previously mentioned long shackles( went back to standard lenght)., and new shocks. It cured the problem on mine.

hi guys., i have an fj40 prod. date jan 1980 with carb no. 21100-61025.....no fuel return on carb.... engine block no. 61031...every thing matches...so carb could be original w/o fuel return on carb.

mine is a 1980 fj40 that i've owned for the last 19 yrs.....the green color i used is army drab by eastwood.....the easiest pain .to used i have ever seen....easy to correct if scratched or damaged in some way. the post by T eakins by the way is superb...like the overall looks.

bought a new one ., made in USA.., echlin brand $136 (ouch)....couldn;t find any oem in Moncton(napa)...works good so far 12.87 volts with all acc. on at 1200 rpm.

i changed my VR and with all acc. on (1200 rpm) i get 12.87 volts on my multimeter....will see if that enough to keep my agm battery happy...thanks guys..... H4 headlight on high beam., fan on max. , and wiper on..

hi guys need your input again., 1980 fj40....when cold and at higher rpm my voltage regulator is noisy....at first i tought my engine was giving me problems but after further checking my VR is producing that noise......works perfectly though...charging my battery as expected but you can hear...

for the reinstallation of the head., do you need the side cover off to realign the pushrods on the lifters or are they sliding exactly where they should on the lifter without the need to be hand guided ? i may need to do the exact same thing. thanks
